The 35th Homesteading Carnival is HERE

Me hosting the Homesteading Carnival could not have fallen on a better week for me. Tuesday is Mardi Gras here in Louisiana, so guess what this weeks theme is, yep, Mardi Gras. So get yourself ready cuz here comes the parade!

'OK, here comes the first float'.
It's a float filled with great FOOD AND RECIPES. First off I can see some big pots, one is from Connie over at Little Treasures and she has cooked up a pot of Hungarian Goolash and Spaetzle Dough. These recipes sound very interesting, I think you'll should pop over and check them out. Another big pot is being served up and it's from Marilyn over at Urban Homemaker , and she's serving up her recipe for Slumgullion stew. Now that's sounds like something I'd like to try.
Now what better to serve with stew than cornbread. Karen @ Country Life shows off her cast iron cookery along with some mouth watering cornbread recipes. Pass the butter please. And here's another cornbread recipe. This one is a first for me, a cornbread salad. Tina over at Cherry Hill Cottage shared her recipe for this salad in a picture tutorial step by step. Be sure not to miss this one.
Now, are you ready for some dessert? Let's start with some healthy muffins made by Wendy at A Sunny Place. These muffins are egg and diary free. These are great if you suffer with allergies. Way to go Wendy. And she also made a Frugal Chocolate Cake. And you know what I think would go great on a muffin, some of Miss Mary Ann's Rose-Petal Honey. You can get a copy of that recipe at Woodruffe Rabbits, her blog. If honey is not for you, then how about some Rhubarb Strawberry Jelly. This recipe is being shared by Laura @ Laura Williams' Musings. You know, I've never tried rhubarb, I really need to.
A couple of more recipes are showing up on this float, looks like some goodies too. How about a Peach and Walnut Cobler made by Catherine @ Ramblings from the Heart and Home. Are maybe you'd like this scrumptous looking Pumpkin Roll courtesy of The High Desert blog.

"I see the next float, it's the HOMESTEADING FLOAT".
The float is being pulled by Grandma Rosie's new family member. To see this newest member of the family, which is a tractor, go HERE. This float contains things that have to do with, yep you guessed it, homesteading. First thing I see are some pigs from Purewater Hollow Homestead. It looks like these little piggies are headed for the market. This post tells us the ins and out of raising the pigs from birth to butcher. He gives a run down of all the cost, really great post. Hey look, some chickens! Belle @ Born 100 Years too soon showed off her chickens and the eggs that they are laying. Ahhh look how cute, Marilyn over at Heritage Hill Homestead is introducing some little cuties that were recently born to her homestead. You have to check out how adorable they are. Grandma Rosie is also showing off her gardening skills on this float. She has some great information about sowing seeds and setting plants.
Well they have a few more people showing off their gardneing skills. Nancy over at Scooter Mac Farm is planning out her spring garden with a long list of what she hopes to have growing on her homestead this spring. Momma Cole @ The Cole Homestead is planning out her spring garden too. She also listed a website that helped her do it. Now once their gardens come in they will be canning for next winter. And to help with this activity is Peggy over at The Simple Womans Cannery. This weeks she gave a four part series on Preserving The Harvest. This series is very encouraging to all of us. You can find this helpfulness HERE-PART ONE, HERE-PART TWO, HERE-PART 3, and HERE- PART FOUR.

The next float rounding the corner is the TIPS OF THE TRADE FLOAT. This one is going to have some really great tips that will sure to be of use to many of us. First off is a tip from Belle who shows how not only how to recyle something but put it to great use. She took a regular plastic salad container and turned it into a mini hothouse for her seeds. Great idea Belle! Heres a tip from Crystal @ Homemaking Homesteader who takes one four pound chicken and turns it into two meals. Way to go Crystal!
"Hey throw me another great tip somebody!" "OH here comes one!" This one is from Tracy from Abundant Springs. She had some really "Neet things you can do with Google". I for one didn't know they offered all of that. "I just caught another one!" This one is from the Front Porch. This is a good one about cast iron pots and pans, a great read and some helpful tips.
Here are a coule of spiritual tips, and we can all use these. First from Misty @ Simplicity, wroter about The Power of Kindness. There is never enough kindness in the world. Page over at Shekinah's Place posted a really great list of christian ways to reduce stress. OK, who can't use that?

"OOO this float is all HANDMADE".
All the things on this float were handmade by someone special. Starting with some beautiful pencil sketches made by Miss Mary Ann over at Woodruffe Rabbits blog. She is so talented! Next is a pair of felted slippers that Trina made for her daughter. Check them out at Hectic Heaven. Sher @ Country Knoll showed off a beautiful stitchery project that she did a while ago. It's adorable. A is for gourgeous Afghan. Linda @ God is our Refuge is making an afghan out of what looks like to me as Mardi Gras colors. Love it! Tricia @ Home on the Range shows off her skills by making a lovely blue skirt and some of the most precious dress towels. You have to see how cute they are.

"Speaking of Handmade, I see the next float coming down the road is QUILTED."
All quilts, all the time. The first quilt blowing in the breeze is made by no other than Blue Bell at Country Colors. She is all of 9 years old and is taking part in Louann's Block of the month series. They are making the Jacob's Ladder Blocks. You can see Bells block at her blog. Another young quilter is Lily at Dragons Cave. She is participating in the Louann's quilt block series too. Lily is only 11 years old. Great job girls!
Another quilt hanging on the float is a great find that Louann from Little House in the Valley found at a thrift shop for $2. It is too cute and has several colorful chickens on it. Go check it out. And to finish off our quilted float, here is a How-to post on the Front Porch entitiled "Quilt at the Beginning - class preparations". This is a great tutorial of how to begin your quilting experience. Rebekah even shows you what tools are a must have.

"Oh my goodness, look how ORGANIZED this next float is!"
Several people posted some great tips for getting things organized in and around the home. First off Leslie at Journey to Simplicity shows us how she keeps it together while she gets it together, her house that is. Robin from Heart at Home tells us how to organize our homes in just 15 minutes. Pay attention, she gives at pop quiz at the end, LOL. Mrs. E from Living Sacrifice has a great post called "Stuff Immunity Disorder". This touched home for me. Do we really need all the "stuff" that we have cluttering up our homes? Like she stated, "Christ owned nothing". Leslie shared her thoughts on the HSB Front Porch about what you can do to stop all of the junk mail and catalogs from clogging your mailbox. She has listed a website where you can go to have your name removed from these mailing lists. I really need that!

"Ahhh the last float already!"
This one is a little odd and at the end, get it, THE ODDS AND ENDS FLOAT. This float contains just that, bits and pieces and a little of this and a little of that. First let's all stop by at Faithful Acres Farm and tell Linda congrats on the birth of her son Daniel who born this week. Also stop by at Rachel's Littlebourne Farm blog and check out the scarecrow that her and her children made out of barley straw. A little taste of summer is great with all this coldness.
Sister Lori @ Be Ye Separate gave a wonderful testimony to a Day in the life of a working mother. Great job. Kerimae @ A Happy Home discussed with a group at her church, what their dreams as parents were for their children. Great post, it makes you really think about things.
Abi @ Teaching 4 Him posted a thought provoking diddy about numbers. If you like math, you'll like this. Carol gives a sample day of homeschooling in their home school. Check it out at Home...Where I Love to Be. Michelle at Preciouspeas is dong a study on Crustaceians. She has listed two books with info and a website. Stop by for more info.

Well that is the end of the parade for this week. As the last float drives out of site, theres nothing left but to pick up all the beads and what nots off the street. "Hey, get that organization float back here to help".
Hope you'll enjoyed the Mardi Gras Carnival................And by the way, the HSB Front Porch will be hosting the carnival next week.

Kitty, you did a wonderful job on the Homesteading Carnival. It was so well organized and thought out. And I love your idea of Mardi Gras! I also wanted to thank you for including my two daughters in the quilting section. They are so new to blogging and quilting both, that it was so exciting and unexpected for them. You just made their day! :) Thanks again for a wonderful Homesteading Carnival!
