Vegas Baby!
We loaded up the van and we headed up to Strasburg this afternoon, after spending a wonderful morning with Grandpa shooting off the rockets the kids had built the night before. They all had a blast, (no pun intended) and we must have shot them off about 15-20 times. What a memory!
We had to be up by 3:30 a.m. (Friday) to make sure that we got to Vegas on time. That was still cutting it pretty close with all those potty breaks and such. Kimberly and I drug ourselves out of bed and even took showers to wake up before we got on the road. We made great time and it was so much fun having another adult to talk to. The kids did really well overall, especially since none of our electronic devices were working. Kimberly, generouslyoffered her DVD player and the kids each got to move to the front row and watch one movie, which certainly helped their boredom.
Joel would entertain himself by squealing every so often, and then frowning at us when we asked him to quiet down. So Kimberly started telling him "don't you smile" and the results were hilarious! He would squint his eyeballs and grin from ear to ear to hear us laugh. He certainly does enjoy to be part of a good joke.
I think I only had to threaten one child with a walk through the desert to maintain peace!, Just kidding!!
We made it in time to check into our hotel, freshen up (quickly) and head to the MGM Grand Hotel for dinner at The Rain Forest Café. After losing LeRoy and Wendy, Kimberly and I decided to park in the parking garage attached to the hotel. Little did we know this hotel is like a small city! When we finally got inside we were thrilled to see the sign for the Café. We figured it would be at the top of the escalator. Ha ha! Tthe joke was on us!! This sign was just a little advertisement, used to encourage people to walk through the ENTIRE hotel to find the place. There is only one way to the Café, and it is literally at the very back of the hotel, so you have to walk through ALL of the other junk to get there.
Well, the dinner was worth it. All of Jeff and Kelly's immediate family were there, and it was lovely to meet all of them. Kelly comes from a wonderful family. I was so thrilled to finally get to meet them. She is such a lovely woman, how could they be any less? Her mom is gorgeous, jut like her, and I loved her instantly. Her father was incredible as well. He told me stories about delivering babies for a woman who had 12 children(..see there are people who have more than me ) Anyhow, he used to take Kelly with him when she was a little girl to some of the deliveries! I thought that was so neat (she is an ER nurse now by the way!) How precious to have your dreams begin at such a tender age and at the side of your daddy!!
What a lovely evening..I wish the Rain forest Café hadn't closed in Colorado because it really is a fun dining experience for the kids. Well, off to bed, tomorrow is a BIG day!
