Sand Dunes
Aunt Bon and Grandma went with us to the Sand Dunes. They are about two hours southwest of Pueblo. Even after living in Colorado for 36 years, I had never been there. I was eagerly anticipating experiencing this natural wonder with my kids. They just kept asking, where are these things? All we see are mountains..are you sure you are going the right way etc.. For those of you who have never been there, the dunes are literally surrounded by mountains, when you look at the topograpical map of the area, it looks like God placed a big sandbox in the middle of this majestic area for fun One of the kids commented that it would have taken one big dumptruck to haul all that sand!! Yeah, God's dumptrucks would certainly be pretty big!!
They had a blast running, rolling and frolicking about. They were only disappointed that mommy and grandma couldn't make it all the way to the top carrying little ones! I have promised that we will come back again in a year or two and try it again!! We did manage to bring home a gallon or two of sand, which is still residing in the back of my van. I guess I will sweep it out tomorrow before we head to Denver or else we will have some sandy pillows and sleeping bags when we get there.
Well, we will be heading north tomorrow and then hitting the road to Vegas very, very early on Friday morning! Will tell you all about it next week!!

We took our family to the sand dunes two years ago. We stayed in Alamosa the night before and drove up to the dunes in the morning. The kids thought we were lost. They enjoyed the visitor center and we had sand coming out of shoes for a month afterwards. Our kids say that it is one of their favorite places. We hope to go back again when all of the kids can hike to the top on their own.
