Nature Center
I am enjoying a precious moment, while my littlest angel sleeps in my lap. The wonder, the hope, the innocence that is wrapped up in this gift. I think that I have learned to appreciate these sweet moments more and more as the years have passed. I feel like it was yesterday that I held my little Trenton in my arms, but he will be turning 12 next Wednesday. I wish I had taken more time to just sit and enjoy the simple things with him. I was so concerned with the daily tasks and unfortunately my own selfishness. I still battle my own selfishness, but I am so grateful that the Lords mercies are new every morning. We can leave our yesterdays, our tomorrows at His feet.
Today we went down the street from my in-laws to the local Nature Center. It was a wonderful and peaceful morning. We walked the trails and played at the park for a couple of hours while we waited for the Raptor Center to open up. There were only two other visitors there, so the volunteer gave us all of her time and attention. She even brought out their newest bird of prey, a Prairie Falcon so that the kids could see it up close. We learned some very fascinating things about birds of prey..including the fact that because of their protected status, the center must send every feather that falls off of the Eagle in to the goverment. They must also do this when one of the birds die...hmm very interesting!! Too bad we don't extend the same protection to our precious babies, but that's another story...
The gal wanted to know if the children had ever disected an owl's pellet, and they promptly responded no, but that would be cool. Well, they sold them here for 75 cents..so we bought!! She liked the kids so much that she gave us four for the price of one!! So, after lunch we put on the gloves and went to town (so to speak) Even Abbie wanted in on the action. I will post pictures soon. (I hope) For those who don't know, an owl pellet is what they regurgitate..they eat their entire prey, so the pellet includes bones /fur/feathers that the stomach can't digest. I love home schooling..I am learning so much! I love to see the kids take in and appreciate God's creation. What an exciting day!
