I thought I might share a few links for some really great homemaking tips.  They have some great ideas for anything from cooking and baking to sewing and cleaning.  I've enjoyed looking through them the last few evenings.

Finally Settled

If you've read my blog in the past, you'd know that we had been planning a move from Utah to North Carolina.  We just made the move within the last few weeks and that's why I haven't blogged in 2 months.  Our house in Utah is an old one and needed a LOT of work before we dared put in on the market, so we were incredibly busy for quite a while.

This is the new living room floor, baseboards, and walls.

This is another view of the living room with the new curtains.

This is the stairwell leading upstairs.  I painted the floor, stairs, railing, rebuilt the walls and textured and painted.

This is the color we did in the bathroom.  We also put in a new surround and textured the walls.  We don't care for texturing, but we had no choice with the amount of defects in the old walls.

This is the upstairs bedroom.  We pulled up the carpet, painted the wood planks underneath, textured the walls and painted.  We also built in a window seat bench.  That picture will follow.

Well, I think I will save our actual move and our adventures in Raleigh for another post.  :)

New Living Room!

I haven't posted in a while because we've been remodeling our living room.  We're moving in June, and our house needs a serious face lift before we put it on the market.  In the living room, we pulled up the carpet, removed all the old baseboards, hung drywall, widened a doorway, re built part of the ceiling, put in a wall, leveled the floor, textured the walls, painted, and put in wood flooring.  We did all of this in just under 2 weeks!!!  We still need to put in the new baseboards and paint the trim and window slats and the built-in entertainment center, but that will have to wait until I'm better.  Did I mention that I've had a cold/sinus infection during all of this???  I'm still pretty sick, but at least I can rest now.  Our bedroom is right off the living room and there is no door (yet), so I HAD to get the living room done in order to properly rest and recuperate.  Not fun, but at least it's mostly done now.

Here are a couple of pictures.  The first is the texturing and the second is the new flooring.  I'll post some pictures of the complete room once it's all the way finished.

Some fun winter ideas to do with the family

Fall and winter are my favorite times of the year! I'm a creature of comfort and I prefer to stay indoors than to venture out. Here are some things I do to treat myself and my husband when the wind begins to howl.

  • Get up before any one else and sit quietly in the dark with some hot chocolate and listen to the wind.

  • Fill the tub and have a nice bubble bath.  Fill a basket with candles, matches, music, a good book, and plenty of bath salts and have ready by the side of the tub.

  • Fill a basket with games, hot cocoa, popcorn, some fun movies, and a warm blanket to enjoy on a cold evening.  Don't forget the PJs!

  • Sit on a blanket in front of the fire and take turns telling jokes, stories, and ghost stories.  Be sure to have plenty of snacks too!

  • Put a pot of water to simmer and slip in some cinnamon sticks and cloves.  Don't let it burn!

  • Go sledding together or have snowman building contest and then gather around the kitchen table with some hot chocolate and marshmallows.

  • Just enjoy being together and make some memories!!!
