When I was newly saved, it was a marvelous thing. I couldn’t believe the freedom, the lightness, the joy, the communion I had with God. It was truly a miracle and everything in my world suddenly had color like I never knew. Of course, Christians and angels rejoiced, but still I was amazed at the difference.

During that time, I became more hungry for the things of God. Previously I really had no interest in spiritual things except for the basic belief that “whatever works for you is great”. But to know the TRUTH! Wow! How could I ever wish for anyone to just keep plodding through life unaware of my Father in heaven, through His Son, Jesus Christ?!

Suddenly, spiritual books became more interesting (and the local library continues to be full of them). I began doing some Bible study during that time, but reading what other authors wrote *about* God was more interesting and fruitful (so I thought), and besides, I wasn’t too sure about jumping onto the whole “the Bible is the Word of God and completely enough" thing.

But the Lord is good, and gracious, and knew my heart’s longings. I just wanted to know HIM, and ran after HIM continuously. In speaking with Him, I pleaded with Him to show me HIs ways, His truth, His paths. I was one hungry girl!

So one of the first books I read was a little white hardback titled Conversations with God (I hope it will be obvious why I am NOT linking to these books!). I was SO taken by this book! The author had “let God write it” through his fingers, and let me tell you, I felt that my eyes were enlightened! Everything sounded so good, so right, so exciting; I *knew* I was on the right track.

About this time, my husband brought him an interesting little brochure from someone about her church, and it was full of scripture that answered in "rebuke" to “traditional Christianity”. We thought we might try this “church” but when I read the brochure more closely, something just didn’t sit right with me. I asked God to give me discernment, and BOY did He ever!!!

Understand now that I was a Bible newbie, and really did not know my way around it. Furthermore, the internet was a whole new thing for me too, so I wasn’t on it at all except to get email once a week. It was just me, God, this brochure and the Bible. And somehow, miraculously, God led me to scripture upon scripture upon scripture that point by point refuted what this church was saying about Him, about His Son, about His Spirit and about His Word. I showed my husband what I had found and he, too, was flabbergasted. We threw the brochure away, knowing that God had done what we had asked: to lead us upon HIS paths. (I regret throwing it away now, because it was such an amazing miracle!)

Later that week, I went to the library, and lo and behold, Part TWO of Conversations with God was sitting on the library shelf, *waiting* for me! So of course I took it as a sign and started reading it. I was so grateful to God for this little ditty. I think I read to almost 1/3 of the way through the book when a phrase popped out that almost knocked me out with the warning sirens screaming in my head and heart, something akin to Jesus not being the Son of God. I am not lying. The book immediately dropped from my hands because it was HOT, like it was BURNING. Instantly I recognized that the devil had been plying my heart and ears. God does not mess around, sisters, He really wants your heart all to Himself!

The reason I am sharing this is because these books keep coming around, such as The DaVinci Code, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, and A Course in Miracles. And with people such as Oprah on their bandwagon, even Christians are getting sucked into false teaching that leads them further away from the Lord.

Here’s a taste of what they’re proclaiming:
“I am a Christian who believes that there are certainly many more paths to God other than Christianity. . . . I don’t believe that it’s the only way, with 6 billion people here on the planet.”
–Oprah

“If you go deep enough in your religion, then you all get to the same place. . . . The important thing is that religion doesn’t become an ideology. . . . The moment you say ‘only my belief’ or ‘our belief’ is true, and you deny other people’s beliefs, then you’ve adopted an ideology. And then religion becomes a closed door.”
–Eckhart Tolle

A couple of quotes I got from an email states the main points clearly:

* It’s a serious thing to get it wrong when it comes to who God is, who Christ is, and how one gets to know God.
* Remember, Satan’s most dazzling deception is for people to be in contact with him when they think that they are in contact with the living God.

Also, none of them are attacking traditional Christianity or saying that we as Christians are wrong. What they are saying is, “Bring your beliefs; keep your beliefs. All that we are doing is going deeper.”

Sisters, let's get real here. Do you know true joy? Do you have the oil of gladness? Do you have hope even when the day falls apart? Are you soft-spoken, patient, thankful? Do you spend your day in conversation with the Lord, asking Him for help, giving Him gratitude, taking your thoughts captive and repenting of the sins you are prone to? If not, GO to the Word of God, which is LIFE. Put away the “spiritual” books that are piled upon your bedside, and commit to being in the Bible with nothing alongside but a notebook and pencil. The Lord is your Help!

May we all be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, have ears to hear, and be active in prayer for all (including US) who continue to seek paths (and sometimes stumble) through the spiritual warfare that the devil has engaged us into.

Ezekiel 13:6   They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.

Psalms 61:3   For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Psalms 37:40   And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Psalms 112:7   He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
