More burning tears for Kenya

I went to Nairobi to do some food shopping and on the way out of the city the matatu (small bus) about 5 cars in front of me hit and killed a young lady. I don't want to be gross but her face was like ripped off her and it was folded over on to the road. Her shoe was off and there on the side of the road was her friend who managed to get across the road without getting hit. I can't stop because it can be dangerous to get involved in situations like this, as they have a mob mentality. So I drove past her and sobbed almost the whole way home. There was apolice check about 1 1/2miles up the road so I stopped to let them know and do you know, the policeman was more interested in taking the food I had sitting on my passneger seat. I told him "there is a young girl dead on the road, shut my door!" I was so angry at the death and the police's indifference to the whole thing I felt like vomitting. I have been told in that one area where the road is narrow and there are hundreds of people walking on the road and running across the 4 lane highway that about 5 people die there a week!!! I can't forget it and I was so thankful my African children are growing up in the country not the city slums!!!! I saw Mwangi later that day and I just wanted to kiss his sweet face!!! My children will never have to run across highways but when I saw that girl there my heart ached (again) for the people who don't have the priveleged life we have. I also thought that girl had no idea that her life would end that morning as she went with her friend. Say a prayer for her friend who made it across the road, I won't forget her face either standing there shaking looking at that lifeless body left in the road. It is a bad day for sure, and today was a day that changed me inside and I am not sure it was in a good way.....
so sorry

This is so tragic.
I know that here at home ( USA) we are far more fortunate than people realize.

Dear Ellen,
I just read your blog for today. How horrible for you to be witness to such a thing! I am sure that you will never forget it. My heart goes out to you and to the young lady who still lives.
Years ago, I had two cousins killed in auto accidents. Peter, who was six at the time, was hit by a car as he rode his bike; and Bobby, who was nine, had crossed the road to get a ball. The man driving the car came careening down the hill and went up onto the side of the embankment where Bobby stood. He was struck and killed when the car rolled on top of him. Neither accidents made any sense. And, of course, neither of them seem to be as violent as the one you described.
In your case, you saw the effects of sin...noone seemed to care at all, except her friend. And you.
Please remember that our God reigns. He also saw what happened. He is in control even in this. And even though you probably will never see the girl who still lives, you can mourn with her for the death of her friend. You may be one of the few who does.
And, there is this. You are now in a position to pray for this other girl...the one who is left and like you, very likely will never forget what she saw. You can now lift her each day to the Throne of Grace and intercede for her that one day she will come to know Jesus as her Saviour and Lord of her life!! I believe that it was not for nothing that you were there to witness this. God placed you there, Ellen!! Believe that He wants her for His own. Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict her of sin, righteousness, and of judgement. Pray that He will send someone into her life who can tell her about the One who died in her place. In all likelihood you will never know this side of heaven if she comes to Him or not, but at least NOW she has you to pray for her!! The Bible tells us that God is not willing for any to perish, so bring her to Him and expect mercy and and an answer to your prayer. God is faithful!! And in all of this, let Him do a good work in you as well. This may sound like a strange thing to say to you at this moment, but Ellen, thank and praise Him that you were there. Thank Him for this opportunity that you wouldn't have if you had not been there to see it, awful as it was. Thank Him and praise Him, thank Him and praise Him. And remember to let Him cleanse you as well of any thing that may hinder your prayers.
You are on my heart. And let me say one last thing: I will pray for the young lady who still lives as well.
May our Lord comfort you in all of this.
Love to you~~Sherrill

I have been reading your posts since March, catching up, and I am sorry I haven't been keeping up with you. It seems life for you there is up and down, good and bad, you never know what you'll get. Mother Teresa was right, you know, the sanctity of life is diminished everywhere, didn't she say, if you can take the life of the child in your womb, what's to stop you from taking a life outside of it? Or something like that - I am looking forward to giving you a hug when you come home in July. I hurt for your friends in Africa, too, because this is the way it is for them, not to care about a sweet girl whose face got ripped off in the road. I wish there was something more to say to comfort you. Without sounding like I'm just passing on easy sentiments, let me say that I will say a prayer for you right now, and for your friends there. Love to you- Chris
