Happy New year!!! Gia na mwaka mweru mwega!!!!

it has been quite awhile since I've written. First of all, Bruce found my book!! PTL!! It was in a place I looked at before (sound fimiliar Sheryl?!) but he looked there and there it was!! It was a good lesson for me but I am glad it is back!! It has been a busy time and a long time so here are some hightlights of the past month. We had some more down times with relationships here but they teach us to press on and remember to show God's love and live the way God would want all Christians to live. A "friend " cheated us out of alot of money then when pressed this christian man finally said he had made a mistake!! Mistake? No, it was sin and we forgave him but ut really bothered me becuase this man was my first supporter of my learning Kikuyu and I have befriended his daughters and his wife. Other relationship woes were with my 3 kikuyu children. i have come miles with their father and he really seems to be doing GREAT!! They have been struggling with embarassment which is hard for me and my kids becuase they don't understand why they are ashamed to greet them at church. I talked to their father and we decided that only Mwihaki would come for awhile until the boys "shape up". As for Little lambs. We have been having a great time with those kids. I have one particular girl, Shilo who I mentioned last time, who I love. Her "grandmother" gave me a gift as a thank you for giving her love and attention. This is amazing because the people here tend to be takers not givers so the fact that she gave me a gift meant alot. My family and I all had a great time at each of the centers Christmas party. Sadie has a friend at the local center. Her name is Yaya and she is her age and one of 8 children from alomost 8 different fathers. We have been developing relaionships with these kids and it is very rewarding. This Christmas my friend in Connecticut is entering the last few months of her life. we were able to talk to her bfore she became incoherent and it was a good conversation. It has been hard for us to be so far from her and not be able to be with her son Josh. So that has been like a cloud hanging over our heads. Speaking of clouds it has rain (poured) almost every day since november!!! it is quite depressing even when you know that its benefits will last for years!! It is so cold and raw!! So now for the good news.... we have had a fun time with the kids this break. we wnet to naivasha one day for swimming at the resort pool, we saw Nativity story in Nairobi, I went scrapbooking with some ladies for a few days, Bruce and I had a day out shopping in Nairobi, I won 5,000 shillings at Nakumatt (about 75.00 dollars) and took the girls used clothes shopping in Nairobi. My kikuyu has jumped to a new level, although the other day I told a lady I was going to beat her when I meant to say "do you need to throwup?..( Long story...) our friend Abraham got a job driving a truck (good news but I worry about purity when he will be gone for 3-4 weeks at a time...) and we conitinue to grow in our relationships with the older Moffat students and their families. We have a visitor from the Us coming for 3 weeks. She is ayoung lady from upstate NY. It will be fun to show her around and have a VISITOR!!! Bruce is very busy but happy to be busy with Little lambs, Moffat and fixing up Landrovers. God always uses Bruce's love of Landrovers to use him to help develop relationships. Timothy is his mechanic and his friend and Johnson a young man friend of ours has been taken under Timothy's wing and being taught auto mechanics for free by a really good mechanic!! So God is at work to fulfill our dream of helping young men get jobs!! that's it for the month. We will be back into full swing next week, starting Jan 3rd....looking forward to it and the new year as God continues to stretch me in areas of my life that needed stretching. Happy New Year!!!  Ellen

It has been a very busy time for you, hasn't it?

I am so glad that you have some good success and joy to balance out some of the hardship. I would think that would help you continue!

Take care and I will look forward to hearing more, as always!

Patti

Hi, Ellen, Happy New Year!

How great to hear from you again. I am glad you are all well... and as we enter 2007, I think of how fast the time has flown and how soon you will be on furlough. Can't wait to visit with you then. I'm sure you'll have even more stories than you can share online. Your big post did show up, by the way! I am getting ready to head to the Boydens for New Year's eve. Missing you as the holidays roll by, and thinking of Terry, as you are. Hugs & kisses - Chris

Lost is Found!

Hiya, Ellen~~
So thrilled to hear that "the book" has been found. Have been praying about that, but also confident the Lord would answer in the affirmative. Isn't it great to know that even when we misplace something, He knows exactly where it is?!! And that He tells/shows us!
Do you have much time to do just "fun" reading? It certainly doesn't sound like it. The reason I ask is because I am at present reading a book by Brother Andrew..." God's Call". It is sort of a follow-up book to "God's Smuggler", but I hadn't read it before even though I got it almost a year ago. I do that...buy books as I see them and lay them aside to read when I can. It is about praying for the persecuted church and his experiences as well as those of others on his team.
Also, in the middle of reading a critique of Rick Warren's books, "The Purpose Driven" everything. That is an interesting one, I can tell you, but had to put it aside for a bit and read something encouraging...hence, Br. Andrew's book.
Been doing a lot of knitting as well. Tell me, is it permissable to send knitted hats, mitts, and/or scarves and such to just give out as you see fit? I ask because you mention the cold and damp. Have been knitting for the grands, but couldn't help thinking of those little ones there in lieu of your comment about the weather.
Also, books. If I send any, will they get to you and do you have time to read them?
Bruce mentioned you'll be coming home on furlough this summer; how long will you be here and what will the weather be like when you return to Kenya?
I have taken to looking at Africam.com everyday...of course, it is in the South but still intriguing and fascinating.
Well, keep your chin up and be encouraged! We serve a mighty God, Who is the Sustainer and Comforter of each of us who bears His Name and walks in the Way. You are being transformed into His image; I know that that is His desire and plan for you, and I trust that it is your desire as well. May the Lord Jesus, our great God and King, bless and keep you and yours...with love in His Name~~Sherrill
