more random thoughts about chickens, rats , friends and books

Did I tell you we have chickens now? It's hard to beleive that the Jersey girl has them but we do!! Levi wanted chickens really badly so we finally got them. We had 3 hens and a rooster but one chicken got eaten by a mongoose or a stray dog. We also had a rat in our house but finally we caught it. It was eating the wood in the house and generally making alot of noise and mess!!! I put out poison and Mwangi discovered him dead under the cabinets. It rain keeps coming down here in Kijabe and we are enjoying the sun when it comes out. We have been enjoying the free time together. Last week I took my 3 friends to the doctors and she has "some concerns" about them so please pray for us as we try to figure out the best way to handle to situation. I'm being vague on purpose to protect everyone but please pray for me, them and their father. This week we are going up to Little Lambs just to visit with the kids we probably won't stay long because of the rain and mud. it just gets to you after a while and then you want to go home to a warm , dry and relatively mud free house. Every body has been telling me about the warm weather on the east coast of the Us. Sounds good but you know I was never a big fan of snow!!!! I'm feeling like my blog is getting a bit boring so if you have a topic or question ask me. I'll tell you I just fininshed an old book called "the Basket of Flowers". It was very good and I will start Christie's old Organ" tonight. i'm listening to Lincoln Brewster's new CD . It was a gift to Bruce from a visiting team from US as a thank you for his help. I also have another prayer request- a selfish one- I lost my Kikuyu book and I would like to find it. It is the book where I write down EVERYTHING I learn in Kikuyu. Granted alot is in my head now but I constantly refer back to it for help. Iwas very discouraged by this and the fact that I went to the dukas the other day and this young man was making fun of me for a long time. I could tell his freind was getting embarassed by his disrespect. Anyway , it threw me for a loop and I wanted to never speak it again because of the book being gone but I have decided to keep on going and I started a new book. But still I would like my old one back!!!! Thanks for reading and for praying.

Ellen, now you truly fit in on the homestead blog. How cool is that? I prayed you will find your book, I know how disheartening it is to lose something like that. Don't be embarrassed, keep on going - think of all the folks here in the US who don't speak English that well!!!! It is colder now this week (in the 30s) so don't be thinking of us too warmly any more. As always, sending love to you - and also prayers for your friends. Write about your Christmas prep in Africa if you get a chance. Do you still put up some sort of tree? Do you have a meal? Are presents hard to come by? Love, Chris

I'm praying that book will turn up; it's such a neat idea and a great keepsake aside form it's practical uses!

Don't give up!

Lost Book, Lost Mittens

Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 02:52 - Link

Hiya Ellen,

I will certainly pray that you find your much needed Kikuyu book! Let me share this with you; I hope it will encourage you, but who knows? Years ago, when our children were still quite young, I was looking for a pair of little pink mittens...the kind with a knitted cord attached so they wouldn\'t get lost from a jacket pocket or something. Anyway, I had put them away and then wanted them again as cold weather approached. Well, I looked and looked for them; I thought that I knew right where they were, but just could not find them. I really wanted those mittens as they had been worn by both our Lisa and our Sarah and now Susannah needed them!! You see, they were \"precious\" to me. So, of course, I prayed and asked the Lord to help me find them. Not too long after that, one afternoon I took a nap ( something I rarely did in those days!) and I had a dream in which I saw those little pink mittens in the same cupboard that I had already looked in; in the dream, they were near the front and the cord was kind of dangling down from them. When I woke, the first thing I did was to go to that cupboard and look again, saying to myself, \" but I have already looked in here.\" Well, wouldn\'t you know it, there they were!! Not near the front but in there nevertheless. I had overlooked them somehow, but the Lord knew right where they were and He showed me. Ellen, I cannot help but think that your Kikuyu book is more important than the mittens and He knows how much you need it. I\'ll be praying.

And, by the way, I still have those mittens and I know right where they are!!

God is so good!

The Lord bless you and keep you~~Sherrill
