A collection of random thoughts and happenings

I have been in pain this past week with stomach pains, Imust have ate something that didn't agree with my American breed digestive system!! I am quickly becoming a major fan of processed food!! Last weekend was carnival here at RVA.That's Halloween to the rest of us who don't obssess over it's Formerly pagan roots. Anyway the kids dressed up and played games and won candy. Gavin dressed up as a Kijabe Primary student. our Kenyan friends laughed so hard at the white boy in a KPS uniform. Levi and his friends did a pirate thing, Kim and her friends were surfer girls and lydia was a "homeboy" type thing!! It was fun. The next day we went to Nairobi. i had invited John, Beth and Mwangi to come over so they ended up going with Bruce, sadie, Lydia and Levi and I. i was so proud of Levi because he actually talked and laughed with John like he was his friend. I say this because there is miles of differences between these two boys even though they are the same age. But John seemed to enjoy the day although we saw a 60 year old white man with a 20 yr old black Girl with 2 mixed kids and he was NOT impressed at ALL!!! Either was I or Levi so I finally told them don't look!!! Not at the mixed children but the creepy old man with a girl. unfortanetly we see that too often. Today I went to Kijabe Primary and taught for the final week until the next school year starts in January. i hope to teach the same kids in 6th and 7th in the next year. That way my standard 6 kids who will stay abck will still be my students. i also hope to tutor some of the kids in English. I have about 10 kids who are 11-15 years old who still can't read English and the school is taught in English!!! One boy NEVER talks to me, never once. And I know he can't read so I asked him if he would let me tutor him but he would have to obey me and do the work and he spoke in this manly voice and said "YES"!!! i said did you say Yes? and he shook is head yes!! So i am excited to believe that maybe he will read!! our friend Bonaface and his new wife came over because he lost he steady income. He also has a baby plus he is responsible for his sick mother, and his 2 brothers and his nephew. This is a common occurence out here , as Abraham is in the same situation. it is because the men don't stick around, So of course he is stressed to the max. I try to encourage him to trust God and go out and look everyday for work. his brother and nephew go to KPS and they are my friends. i personally have a strong affection for his brother because he is cute and has a real sweet way about him. So if you think of it pray for him and his family. The mother is sick with an unmentioned disease and doesn't seem to be well at all which means he might be raising his nephew and his youngest brother. Abraham is off at driving school paid for by a friend from CFC who gave us money to give away. it has been fun to give it away. Some went to pay a friends hosptal bill, some went to pay for a pastor friends book set and some went to buy food and stuff for our friends in the community. The book set is a collection of christian books made available for African pastors at a reduced price. They get 60 books for 100 dollars. that's a deal!! We also paid for a teenage girl to go to Nairobi on a class field trip. She had never been there. Did you know... all most all the kids I know have never been on a safari. They have never seen lions or even elephants or giraffe? Most only get to see them at the "zoo" in nairobi!! Well it is time to finish becuas e there is not much else to say except Terry sent me the WOW 2007 CD and we listen to it all the time!!! Love that Nicole Nordeman song and Aaron Shutes' song "My savior is , my savior was, my savior 's always gonna be"!!!

Kelley loves that Aaron Shust song. She is trying to learn it on the guitar (which she is doing wonderfully at, by the way!).

Love hearing details about what is going on over there. Got Bruce's card yesterday. And yes, we dream about getting over there and seeing everything up close and personal too! :)

Must send you an email...went to a library sale Saturday and was dying to call you and ask you about an author! ha ha

Ellen --- how funny, the band is working on that song for next week! (The Aaron S. Savior one). Loved hearing all that's been going on. Sounds busy as ever. Processed foods - do you mean cereal and pop tarts? Hope you are feeling better today. Sending love - Chris
