Dukas, chapatis, and pikis

I am finally finished the term at kijabe Primary. I had to grade 69 essays for my class. The topic was "The day I will never forget". It was so intersting to learn more about my students. Most told of trips to Nairobi or Mombasa (the beach). One boy told of his friend almost drowning and another of snooping in her big sister stuff!!! Kids are the same all over the world!!! Bruce has been sooo busy at Moffat, with visiting work teams and renovating an old house on the station. He hasn't had any vacation at all. Our car is being fixed right now so we have been home alot. We go to the Duka for lunch to break up the day. Duka means shop. We eat thubu (Stew ) and chapatis, and drink warm sodas!! Chapatis are a greasy flat bread. Oh ,I forgot to say I learned how to ride a motorcycle!!! I was soo tired from walking back and forth to school that I asked the guy who is fixing our car to give me a lesson. After my brief lesson I drove off to school on the piki (motorcycle). when I showed up at school my standard six class was on break and they were just awed at Mrs Kinzer in jeans on a piki!!! I said to them "am I the coolest teacher or what?!!" when I got home I told Bruce what I said and he said "Cool?" "like they know what that means!!" OOpps!! I guess I got humbled again!!! :) Anyway, now I can ride around pretty good although I'm certainly no "Evil Kenevil"!!! Thanks for reading !!! have a good day!!!

My father rode, and taught my mother to ride a motorcycle. She wrecked hers and after that only he was allowed to ride.
I think it would be very exciting to learn, but I wouldn't want to ride where any other cars are! Even if your students didn't understand "cool", they still think you are the equivalent of that, whatever terms they use :)
Have a great day!

That is WAY cool! ... don't you need a license to drive it? I wish I was cool enough to ride a bike. I like hearing about what you eat, too... that's always interesting. So have you gotten to go to the beach? - Chris

Great Blog Ellen! I am trying to start one. The motorcycle cracks me up - but doesn't surprise me. Kiss the kids for me.
