• Mar. 20, 2006 - Insomnia & Hypoglycemia
I woke up this morning thinking about the wonderful night sleep that I
had had and have been having for the past couple of months. I
used to alternate between sleeping well for a few nights and having
insomnia for a few nights. What changed, a couple of months ago I
read a couple of books that have helped me to get the refined sugars,
flour and foods out of my diet. Now I knew
insomnia could be a symptom of hypoglycemia, which I knew I had, I just
had difficulty saying "no" to sugar! After reading "Get the Sugar
Our" by Anne Gittleman and "Potatoes not Prozac" by Kathleen DeMaison,
I was more successful in changing my diet enough to not have to many
"low blood sugar" episodes. One of the blessings of this has been
two months of a good night sleep (unless of course that cat is in heat,
and on that night I have left my door open and my sound machine
off) :) If
you are not sure if you are hypoglycemic there is a test you can take
at this website to see if you should consult a doctor about it. Hypoglycemic Test

• Mar. 20, 2006 - Glad for you!
I really like Dr. Gittleman - I just read her book about peri-menopause. Very good. I just turned 47 (Saturday!!), my mom had a hysterectomy as have 5 of my closest friends - so - I have no one really close to me who has gone through menopause and I am trying to learn all I can about what to expect. Sheesh! But her book was very good and I learned alot. I've already taken some of her advice and I can see a difference in myself. Woohoo!
