• Mar. 10, 2006 - Baking Soda
I can't remember who suggested that I read the book Baking soda : over 500 fabulous, fun, and Frugal Uses
by Vicki Lansky....I guess I should go check...hold on...Lora K. Thank
you. So I checked it out of the library and it of course has a
lot of great ideas for baking soda. What I found the most
interesting in the book was the history behind Baking Soda and even a
little chemistry lesson. I learned that Baking Soda is very
effective on acid because it neutralizes it and where it comes from.
(to myself duh!, so much for my father being a chemist) I also
learned that baking powder was made from baking soda (I had used it a
few times when I ran out of baking soda, but didnt know that it was
made from it) and cream of tartar (originally, they now use citric acid
or a couple of other things...I really should have a book next to me
when I am giving the review) and gives a recipe for making your own
baking powder (aluminum free too). So if you want to use baking soda
for more than baking be sure to check out this book.
