• Jun. 9, 2007 - Gardening Set Backs
Well, my husband almost has the chicken coop secure. He has one section left to fix and had board temporarily set there to keep the chickens in the coop. We were gone for most of yesterday and came home and took naps, when we got up the board had fallen off, the chickens were out and most of my garden was destroyed. I was literally ready to wring their scrawny necks, but exhibited self control. My corn which was at least 12" were 1" stubs. Some of my tomatoes plants had the leaves eaten off (I thought they didnt like tomato leaves), My cucumber & green been plants were gone and a couple of my daughters watermelon plants were also gone. And they had eaten my brand new pepper plant which I had just transplanted the day before. I was ready to cry and forget the whole thing, but I decided I wasn't going to let it stop me and last night I replanted the corn, cucumbers, & green beans and put the glass covers back over the squares (The other plants were getting to tall which is why my glass covers had been removed). My daughter replanted her watermelon plants (thankfully she still has one of those left, in case its to late for watermelon). WE still have 30 good tomato plants and tonight I will go to Walmart and get a couple of more pepper plants. Thankfully they didnt get my new basil and rosemary plants. Well thats it for now.
