Oh I despise these things, we are constantly overwhelmed with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them, all over the house . . . our house is old and we can't exactly seal all the holes they come in.
We're cutting down the box elder tree this summer . . . hopefully that will take care of the problem. It's too close to the house anyway, it's branches are starting to grow over the roof, so that's two reasons we really need to take it down.
They are mostly in old houses because it is so hard to seal them up. They do eat thingies from the box elder trees but you don't need any box elder trees for them to be around. They are in other trees, too. They are obnoxious, ugly and disgusting.
I am going to look for the link, too. The only way I can get rid of them is to vaccum them up.
