• Jan. 25, 2006 - Getting rid of refined Sugars
Well, we have begun our process of cutting out refined sugars. I have
noticed another couple of blogs that mentioned cutting out sugar so I
thought I was post another entry. Two excellent books that have
helped me to do this (Thanks for the recommendation from Christine Miller) are "Get the Sugar Out" by Ann Louise Gittleman
and "Potatoes not Prozac" by Kathleen DeMaison. Kathleen
discusses the chemical reactions from you brain due to sugar and how it
causes us not to be able to concentrate, to feel tired all the time,
easily angered etc. She then gives you seven steps on breaking
this addiction to sugar. One of the questions she asks to find
out if you are sugar sensitive is "If you come home and go into your
kitchen, you are not hungry but you see a plate full of chocolate chip
cookies, what would you do?" I know what I would do. I
would eat at least 4- 6 cookies. :) Ann Gittleman
talkes about the diseases that are caused by sugar and the 501 ways to
cut the refined sugars. She recommends more natural sugars to
use, how to substitute them in your foods and even includes a few
recipes! She also gives you tips on how to avoid or minimize
refined sugars when eating out. Ann Gittleman also has a book
called "Why Am I Tired All the Time". This is for people who are
already healthier and minimized sugars. The cause might be copper
overload.
Since I know right now that sugar is my main problem this is what I am
working on. I have noticed that I am already experience more energy and
better concentration. I have even got my dh on the
bandwagon! I will keep you updated on my progress.
