• Jan. 24, 2006 - Can Cold Water Clean Dishes?

You tell me!  ;)

This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean. John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Georgia. After spending a great evening chatting the night away, John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, "Are these plates clean?" His grandfather replied, "They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!" For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, "Are you sure these plates are clean?" Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!" Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass. John yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car". Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted . "COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"

I came by to say that I got to drive through Asheville on the way home. It must be popular, everyone keeps talking about it. I have a friend who lives here, who moved here from Ashville. We went to Ashe County, it's further north. It's LOVELY, I cannot wait to go back.

Hilarious! But it makes me think, because people get WAY too hung up on sterilizing things! Resisting a few germs, even dog ones, can keep you healthy!

Thanks for the welcome and comment!

When I was a child, we would feed leftovers to our dog on one of the plates, then wash the plate (in hot water). My grandmother was babysitting, so to be 'funny' -- I brought the dog-cleaned plate in and said "This is one plate we don't have to wash!" Nana almost had a heart attack (sorry, Nana!).

We went for a walk this afternoon, and it dawned on me then (not earlier when I read your post) that you said Georgia. AUGH! Not someplace like, lets say...Alabama...But Georgia!

My house cleaner told me that you can do all your laundry with cold water. She brought all the cleaners and rags herself. I wonder if those rags ever really got clean. I just wrote about her on my blog today.

Thanks for the giggles! I have hear this is a good way to get rid of company that has overstayed their welcome...after dinners, set the plates on the floor, call the dog in and then put the plates in the cabinet. Company guaranteed to be gone by sunup!

I don't exactly understand the whole trackback thing, but I thought of this entry when I read TNMOM's post.
