• Jan. 19, 2006 - Now I lay me down to sleep...

Bedtime prayers have always been part of our routing in our household, but I noticed that the little rhyme...even though it was original was not enough, especially for my seven and five year old.  We decided to change this to a mini family prayer meeting.  Instead of each individual child singing their little rhyme, we now have prayer requests...and of course prayer.  So far this has really turned out well.  I find that the children are thinking of others as well as some original prayer requests..such as "Dont let us near the rattlesnakes" from my almost 4 yo ds.  I have great hope in the future that the "Family that prays together, stays together" and while it take a lot more thank prayer (it also takes commitment to the Lord and each other, love, communication etc),...prayer is definitely a good place to begin and end the day. (as well of course as many times in between)

Rattlesnakes! HOW CUTE! We started this when our kids were about that age (not tp much older then yours, they are 13,10,9) and it helps them to think of others.

Often times at our old house we would see wrecks, once we were waiting at a light and saw a car chase, anyway the kids started praying for the cops safety and that they would catch the person running and noone would get hurt. We've also prayed right there in the car for firefighters working wrecks and victims...

All that to say, the little prayers at home evolved into prayers outside the home.

We do this as well :o) Just started about two months ago actually, and it has went over well, it reminds me and my DH of the innocence of a child and really sets our hearts in tune with our children and our God! The rattlesnakes request was just adorable!

I never taught my children the little rhyme, since I thought nowilayme was one word until I was about 10. lol Bedtime prayer time is always such a special time for us too. BTW, I just noticed your little age scale thingys for your children - our girls are almost exactly the same age! my oldest will be 9 on June 19, and my youngest turned 6 on Dec. 1. :-)

I taught high school for many years. I taught in Christian Schools and so prayer was a part of our daily routine. You would not believe how many bright , intelligent teens from Godly homes do not know how to pray out loud!! Star them out young.
