• Jul. 11, 2006 - Make a difference - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Our borough newsletter came today and it's focus was on
recycling. It had some good information so I thought I would pass
it along.
TRIVIA
Throwing away an aluminum beverage container wastes as much energy as pouring a soda can half filled with gasoline
The energy saved from recycling a glass bottle will light a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
The energy saved from each recycled aluminum can will operate a TV set for three hours.
Two weeks of daily newspapers equals one full grown tree.
Glass produced from recyled glass instead of material reduces related
air pollution by 20 percent and water pollution by 50 percent
Americans compromise 5 percent of the world's population, and annually produce 27 percent of the world's garbage.
One person uses and discards two pine trees in paper products each year.
Americans use 50 million tons of paper each year consuming over 850 million trees.
Recycling half of the paper used throughout the world today would free 20 million acres of forest land from paper production.
About 70% of all metal is used just once an then discarded. The
remaining 30% is recylced. After five cycles, only one quarter of
one percent of the metal remains in circulation.
