• Jan. 17, 2006 - NAIS modification suggestion
Anyone who has been hanging out at homesteadblogger.com has by now
heard of NAIS, I am sure. I was thinking about this problem and
what could be done with. While I firmly believe in abolishing the
whole system, I dont have much confidence that that will happen.
But I did think of an idea of modifying the system. If I am
understanding this correctly, the purpose of NAIS is to
supposedly be able to track down the place where an "epedimic" started
(really it is a way for the government to get further control of our
lives, but that is a rant for a different day). Unfortunatley the
way the have it set up now is not encouraging for the homesteader or
hobbiest farmer. Why cant they limit this program to the
commercial factory farms. Any smaller farmer who sells to the
commercial farmer or butcher AT THE TIME OF SALE, the animal can be
identified with a number. This eliminates the need for the
small homesteader who raises animals for a hobby, their own consumption
or even small sales at a Farmer's Market to have to "buy into the
system". If there is a unforseen problem with meat sold at the
Farmer's Market, it is still easy to trace the the place of
purchase...because a farmer usually has to pay to have a booth at a
Market and most are there week after week.
Anyway this my attempt at a solution to this problem! What do you think?
