• Jan. 15, 2006 - Preserving your Memories (aka scrapbooking)
One of my favorite "hobbies" of all time is scrapbooking. Not
only is it fun, but is also very meaningful. Many people dont
realize that they are not just putting pictures in an album, but their
memories for posterity. It is also a good way of telling future
generations of what the Lord has done in our lives, as David talks
about in Psalm 78:4.
I am sure when we take our pictures that we are not saying to ourselves
"This will look great in a box in the closet". We are thinking
"Won't my parents/children/siblings/friends think this is great." or
"This is a time in my life that I want to remember." .
"Scrapbooking" or as I call it "Memory Preservation" (because I dont
have a great memory) is not a difficult thing to do. When you
hear scrapbooking, you usually associate it with tons of colored paper,
stickers, and do dads....although that part is fun, it is not
necessary, and too much stuff on a page can actually take away from the
picture itself. Just putting a picture in a archival quality book
and writing the "who, what, when, where, why and if you want -
whatever aka as journaling" is all that is really need to preserve
these special memories.
I am sure of you remember going to your grandparents or another close
relative's house and looking at all their photos in an album, some of
you may even have those albums and I am sure they are among your most
precious possessions.
Time...another complaint I hear about scrapbooking is "I don't have the
time", sometimes you just need to make the time like you would for a
haircut appointment. Find a friend or scrapbooking consultant (I
highly recommend Creative Memories as all their products are quality
and have been tested to stand the test of time, heat, light etc) and
spend some time. Take pictures with you in the car and sort them
while waiting to pick up your children or for the doctor. You
dont have to do it all at once or spend hours at a time.
Sometimes 15 minutes here or there is what it takes to get it
done! The dishes and the house work will always be there,
but you won't!
So if you are not preserving your memories today, maybe it's time you did!
Just something to at least think about.

Something else that we all need to remember is prayer, with God nothing is impossible.
