• Apr. 26, 2006 - Chicken Doings!
Well, our baby chicks survived the first night that we were here.
After they had been here an hour, my 4yo son came in from playing in
the backyard and said "Are they big yet?"....I know chickens grow
fast, but not quite that fast. .
I moved the babies up to my room where they would be safe
from the cat....so far she had shown no interest in them...I forgot to
shut the door. As I was drifing off I hear a thunking noise and a
hiss. The cat had fallen into the brooder which was covered by a
blanket. Thankfully no one was hurt, but she hissed and clawed
when I had picked her up....something she has never done to me
before! Needless to say I threw here out of my bedroom and this
time SHUT THE DOOR! I slept like a new mother waking every couple
of hours to make sure my "babies" were ok. Here are some pictures
for the internet to give you and idea of what they look like. We
finally named them! 3 Barred Rocks....names are: Junior (named by 4yods), pepper & smokey 6 Rhode Island Reds: speckle brownie cor don bleu (this & the next one were named by my husband....he has such a sense of humor) parmesan yum-yum (we let our dog & cat name her) little bo peep (this one peeps a lot, especially when the others are quiet) 3 Golden Sex Links: Dandy (named by dd 6yo) Sparlow (named by dd 7yo) & Stryper
