I love my cast iron pan! I only have one, but I want more.
My mom had bought me several "Cook's Essential" pots and pans which I
though were nice, but then I read about how teflon is not good for you
to cook in. So I went out and bought a cast iron pan. I
love it! When it is kept well seasoned it is as good as
non-stick. Another benefit I love about my cast iron is it can go
straight from stove top to oven!!!!! Some links on the benefits of cast iron! Whats Cooking America! Tips on Safer Cookware! Here is what cooking in my cast iron tonight: Texas One Dish 1 lb Ground Beef 2 onions, chopped 1 green pepper, chopped 1 cup oats 1 can diced tomatoes ½ cup brown rice 1 tsp chili powder 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp salt pepper to taste Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, sauté beef and onions over medium high heat. When onions begin to look translucent, add bell pepper. Continue cooking till beef is browned completely. Drain grease well. Add oats, stirring well. Add remaining ingredients, stirring well to completely mix. Transfer to 2 quart baking dish. Bake
for 45 minutes or until rice is tender. I sprinkle some cheddar
cheese on it! YUM. Serve with corn bread or nachos...also
makes a good tortilla filler! Enjoy.
