Question about wells and water purification

Farmer T's Question of the day...

We are having a well put in on the farm. It has been extrememly muddy so it hasn't been done yet. Someone told Farmer T about this thing called a hydrogen peroxide water purification system?  What is that!!!  I figure if I don't want chlorene in my water I don't want hydrogen peroxide either, but I said i would ask the others.  What about water softeners? Do you use these? I hear the hard water could be tough on my clothes?  Are do you just use the well water and call it good? I am sure it will be a good well as it is brand new, and we will have the water tested of course. I grew up on well water and knew nothing but. We didn't have a water softener but Grandma did and I remember never being able to get suds out of my hair when I took a shower!!!

What have you found the pro's and cons are of the well, water softener, and filtrations systems??

Hi Melanie!

It's nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I saw in your profile that you are in Ohio - me too! It is illegal here to buy raw milk. Boo! Here's a link about it:

I think there is a movement to pass a law here allowing a cow share program, where consumers go together to buy a cow from a farmer, and then they own a share of the milk as well. Hopefully that will pass. But I'm still hoping we can get our own cow or goat sometime in the next year.

Blessings!

You are over here too!! Wonderful! :-)
We have a well, no purification system and no softener. We have the water tested regularly just in case and it is always wonderful. Funny, I remember the same thing about my grandmother's house, and always used way too much shampoo when staying there. :-) I don't have a problem with clothes, other than I have to use liquid detergent. Powders don't seem to rinse properly. And if you have a dishwasher, the higher PH detergents work better for me.
