Best time to get chicks?

I want to get my chicks ordered pretty soon but not sure the best time to get them. I am in OH and was thinking the end of April as that would give Farmer T time to make a coop. Is that too late? Is there a good window of time I should look at this spring for the chicks to come? I am ordering them from a hatchery near by.

Chicken timing
You can get your chickens any time, now. If you have a place inside to hold them. They will not go outside until about 6 weeks, anyway. But remember, they are little and cute, now, but they will get bigger, fly over their sideboards and get messy and smelly, so you can't keep them in the house for very long and have a happy house. Do you have a garage you can keep them in until the chicken house is built?
The sooner you get them, the sooner you get eggs, as they start laying at about 6 months. But no time is too late ... you can get them later, if you want. It's your decision as how to manage them after they are growing out of their cuteness.

We got ours last year on the last day of August, and that was too late since we wanted meat chickens for the winter (like by the end of October), but the hatchery close to us sells right up through September, I think. We also got some pullets the end of August and they are still not laying. When we get them in the spring (end of March) they are usually laying (sparsely) by August.

chicks
well I think Farmer T is taking vacation mid april and should have time to build the coop and brooder then so i will check on having the chicks come the end of april. Now they will be 6 months toward the end of Oct that way. How long do we wait for the meat chickens? Would we still be able to butcher in the fall?
So exciting!

Chicks
In 2004, We ordered baby chicks from McMurray's Hatchery. I placed the order in February and asked for them to arrive in April. We live in middle Tennessee on top of a mountain so we still get snow here sometimes in April. When the chicks arrived, we had to keep the inside in a brooder box until it warmed up a little more to put them outside in the coop.
Do you know what breed you are going to be buying?
Blessings,
Laura
