Our potatoes are doing wonderfully. Our soil is so bad though!! Dirt should crumble, and be fine to some degree, it should be a color other than gray. I think we have a definate problem with some infertile ground. It was a field of weeds before, we tilled it many times. I think there is no black dirt, no top soil and a lack of humus in the soil. Next year we will have to mix some in. Does the County office on soil and water conservation help with things like that?
It is very hard, and looks cracked like the desert. The water pools and runs and then all soaks in quickly. I think we will add some topsoil around each plant, and some hay for a mulch to help hold the water on the plants some.
I ended up buying tomato plants and cucumber plants. I replanted seeds of green beans, planted seeds of zucchini and squash, and bell peppers.
I appreciate your advice sunny flowers!!!
