Our chicks have arrived

Our new babies are here!! All 154 of them. We have 103 Rhode Island Reds and 51 White plymouth Rocks. We are having a blast spending time with them and listening to their little peeping noises. They came to the post office early this morning and we had to get their heat lamps all plugged in and then went to get them. They are adorable.

The RI reds are straight run, can't tell if they are boys or girls. There is some different coloring but not sure if that determines it or not. I did read it is very hard to tell. Then the bonus 51 are all boys. They will be our tasty meals later as well as some of the roosters of the RI reds.

We are enjoying them alot and our school day has shifted to being all about chicks.

How exciting! We just got a dozen last week (but one died). They are all pullets - supposed to be anyway. We did get a couple of Sex Links which you can determine by color (hence the name). We have been having a good time watching them. I am sure you will enjoy yours!

Hey I also wanted to share...

I don't recall how old your children are...however I saw on JenIg's site a while back a neat unit study on chickens/pultry. It looks to advanced for my 5 year old, but I do plan on using it later. Here is the link:

Again, enjoy your chicks!!
