First thing I would do is check out your state laws on homeschooling, if you have done that already. Look for a local homeschooling group, if you have done that, then I guess picking out your school books and start. Have you decided how you will do you homeschooling. I guess you would say we are kinda relaxed in ours. Amazon, ebay and CBD is a good start for looking for what you need in homeschool. www.cbd.com. Good Luck. I know you will find a lot of good advice on here for homeschooling. I sure have. sheryl

Here is Louisiana you are able to teach what ever you want. I was able to find most of my books at thrift stores. The ones that I couldn't find that way I order through ABekka book, they are great. You can check them out on the web. Sams wholesale store had wonderful work books for most grade levels too.
Good luck.
PS you can also check into renting the book from the school system. At the end of the year you return them and they give you a deposit back.

going to HSLDA's web site and look up your state info, then getting info from any state group. Then they should be able to help you find any local groups. As far as curriculum well the choices are just endless, A few catalogs Rainbow Resource, Sonlight, Alpha Omega, just google homeschooling.
I would also suggest the book So you're thinking about homeschooling by Lisa Whelch. I believe that you can get it from Focus on the Family. It is a good one.
If your children are coming out of PS I have heard that they need one month to detox for everyyear they were in. And that doesn't mean free time it means, slowly working on what you are going to do now. Feild trips, library trips, just getting to know each other on a daily fulltime basis, can be a huge adjustment.
Hope this helps.

Why are you wanting to home school? That's a good place to start! Write this down on paper.

1) Pray. Ask God to lead you every step of the way. Don't be afraid to *not* take someones advice! Listen closely to His Still Small Voice.

2) www.hslda.com
Find out your state laws. Find out what your state requires of you. Make sure you have a CLEAR understanding of the states requirements.

3) Find out when your states annual home school convention is being held. Attend both days. BUY NOTHING!!! Go to every speaking engagement that you are lead to go to. ASK THE VENDORS QUESTIONS!!! Keep in mind......they want to SELL their product as much as they want to share their love of homeschooling. Take everything that is free. Catalogs, samples, whatever it is.....take it. Then in the privacy of your own home, with you kids, go through it. Pray over it. Let Him Decide!

Those are the big ones I can think of!! HTH Laura

Relax! I know that's easier said than done! You can do this with the Lord's help. You got a lot of good advice. Here is the information for homeschooling in Ohio: http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=OH. Another good website to look at is www.homeschooloasis.com. Please feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

Well, congratulations! I don't know how old your kids are, personalities, etc. so it is hard to say what is best. However, I have found that http://oldfashionededucation.com/ is a great source for some free material for those who really enjoy reading. It is a literature based approach. It is not necessarily Christian, but from what I have seen it is cleaner than much of the stuff out there today.
