• Thursday, September 21, 2006 - How do you keep your outdoor animals warm in the winter?
I have chickens and a rabbit outside this year and need some advice. I am not sure how to go about keeping them warm enough in the winter months. I could bring the rabbit in, but not the chickens! How do you all deal with this? It gets pretty cold here in ohio.
All the rabbit needs is to be out of the wind/draft. I don't know what type of cage you have him in?? But if it's wooden with just the front/bottom open you can staple feed bags to the top front they will hang down and keep the front coverd from the wind. Put a 2x4 or 2x4 in it as a weight. Works great!
The chickens need a room, a small shead or big dog house would work. I never heated my sheads but had a lot of birds in it that help with body heat. You can get heat lamps you can plug in they help a lot!
I am a homemaker and mom to three girls. We live on the corner of my families farm. We have 2 dogs, 11 cats, 48 hens and 3 roosters. I enjoy reading, sewing, gardening, scrapbooking, cooking and baking and spending time with my husband and girls.
