We had a late birthday dinner/early Easter Egg Hunt today for our two kids and their cousin.  Well, the birthday part was for my son whose birthday was a couple weeks ago (several key family members were out of state at the time), but the Easter Egg hunt was for all three kids!    Our lawn mower is currently on strike, so we didn't have to try very hard to hide the eggs... just threw them out in the grass and that was hidden enough.    We really need to get that thing fixed.  I cringe at the thought of the lawn police coming!  We live in town on a quiet dead-end street and no one else on the block has kids, and it seems like all that excess time is spent on their yards.  But money is always tight during the winter and fixing lawnmowers just doesn't make it to the top of the priority list (sorry, neighbors.... food, gas, and electricity top the list! :) ).  Hopefully soon we will get it fixed or maybe we can sweet-talk one of the neighbors in the meantime!  Honestly, normally our yard does not look like a jungle!!    Although, I'm a little concerned that when we do finally mow the lawn that we will run over a few stray Easter Eggs!  ((Crunch!))

Well, here are a few of the pics!  (And no, we didn't lose any of the children in the grass.  Well, at least, not for long!   )

The Hunt....

Eureka!....
(Note my retired neighbor's nicely manicured yard in the background.... )

The Loot.....

That last one's not the greatest picture (they all kind of look they're in a daze... and they hadn't even eaten any chocolate yet!), but it can be really hard to get a 2, 3, and 4 year old to all stand still at the exact same moment!  So all my other pictures of the three of them came out blurry.

Oh, and we planted seeds last Sunday, and I noticed last night that we have sprouts!!  Yay!!  So far it's just the lettuce and the cucumbers that have made their debut.  Which reminds me... Why did I plant cucumbers in the first place????  I don't eat cucumbers!  No one in my family eats cucumbers.  I guess I'm just overly enthusiastic in my attempts at gardening!

Also, I think I'm going to try growing some veggies in containers this year, just in case we end up moving.  I only have two containers that qualify as usable for this endeavor (and are currently available... meaning I killed the previous occupants) and I didn't want to spend a ton of money on new ones, so I was pleasantly surprised to find decent size, relatively sturdy plastic ones at the dollar store, so I got two of them for a grand total of $2 (plus tax of course!  :) )  I was trying not to be too much of an impulse shopper, so now that I've had a chance to think about it, I will probably go back and get a few more.

And, in my quest to be more aware of my shopping habits and frugal in my spending, I am happy to say I took cash to the grocery store today and used two coupons in conjuction with sales, so I paid less than half of the regular price on those two items (butter and three bags of cereal).  That is a big step for me!!  But I am going in the right direction!

And my last story of the day...  We almost always read before bedtime and one of their favorite stories is Sandra Boynton's Pajama Time.  Well, Brannan grabbed it and said he wanted to read it.  So I let him, I was really surprised, he "read" almost the whole thing.  He has probably 75% of it memorized.  I know a lot of kids his age do this, but this was the first time mine did, so of course I was properly impressed and proud.  (And he was really cute too!  )
