On My Mind Today

Twenty Years Ago

Twenty Years ago today, September 2, 1988,   Dad/Charles/Charlie/Grandpa passed away.   He was 65 years old and had a hard life as he was growing up with his brother Walt.  Dh and I went to my brothers home and we talked about both of them.  Uncle Walt passed away a little over a year ago. 

I was the only one at my father's bed in the hospital when he passed away.  Tonight my brother told me he took off work and that was his first day we went back.  He was in the military.  Our dad was a heavy drinker,  I hate to say this buts it true.  He loved whiskey and hated beer.  Our uncle Walt was completely opposite.  When he met mom, she was able to have him quit drinking but the day she passed away, he started all over again.  They were married about 6 or 7 years until she went to see the Lord.  Her death happened unexpectedly.  At that time he had 2  very young children. 

Our Uncle Walt was very close to both of us.  He had one daughter and was married for about 5 years until their marriage ended.  He had a hard time trying to see his daughter.  His wife kept moving around all the time.  When she was 18 years old I"m pretty sure she should have kept in touch with him.  Maybe once every 5 years after that or more at times.  I felt sorry for him.  He started feeling down and decided not to own her any more.  I told him there was Hope.  Someday she will be back.  His health was going down hill really bad.  He was 83 years old when he passed away.  All of a sudden she decied to go onto his life and he took her back and was really happy.  About 7 days before he passed away.  He called me and was really upset over the phone when he left me a message.  I wasn't home.  Its hurts me today on what was wrong.  His daughter decided not to let us see or talk to him in the hospital.  This was very strange.  My brother told me tonight that he just can't seem to get this off of his mind.  Both of us were soooooo close to him.

With my health and my brother was in mexico when he passed away, we werent able to visit him.  I'm in Florida and he was in Arizona. 

I just want to tell three people in Heaven, I Love and Miss you all.  My Daughter, My Dad, My Uncle.  Mom I'm sorry I never met you but someday I will!!! Sending Love to You also.
