Since Surgery

Hi all.  Three days since surgery and do I ever hurt.  All over but my ankle is surely the worse right now.  Earlier tonight I was swollen really bad.  Hubby loosened the bandage for me.  If I'm still like this tomorrow I will call the Doctor.  I know i'm not walking that much and especially not on the foot.  Right now it surely looks a lot better.  Think I will have to start taking my tylenol 3 with codeine again.  I really don't like taking medications.  I have a rolling chair that I use for sewing and placed it in our kitchen to help me get around there but I cant use it on our carpet.   

My dear friend and neighbor Agnes went shopping at joann's for me today.    She bought me embroidery needles for the fabric I have with pictures and I thought that could help me stay busy besides knitting.  Our bathroom door was so narrow and hubby made it 4 inches wider and believe me that helps out ALOT!!!  Thank you honey.  I had to go in there sideways and was that ever hard.  I haven't been outside yet.  I miss taking care of all of my plants.  Doesnt look like we're getting any rain again.  Maybe we'll get what Louisiana is having now.  Hopefully!

Hi all....Tomorrow if the big day for my surgery...I'll have to keep my ankle elevated for awhile.  I"ll be back as soon as I can...I'm going to read a few post before I leave....Until then...byeeeeeeeeee   Jeanne

Rain Finally

Hi Everyone,  We finally had our second day of rain this month.  Yipppeee.   lol   We really need it.  My flowers, bushes and trees and the food i'm growing is really pleased.  When it rains i try and save water.  I have  buckets outside that can hold almost 5 gallons of water and so far i have 4 of them filled and I have another bucket I bought for a fish pond and  it holds appr. 20 gallons of water and thats half full.  I think this will last me for a little while.  I would rather use rain instead of water from the faucet.  The sun is really hot during the day and every night I water everything but finally I dont have to.  We also use our underground sprinkler system every other day morning. 

I'm slowing getting our house ready before my surgery Thursday.  I have to be at outpatient 6:30 am.  Looks like I will be the first.  I'm having a ligament reconstruction in my ankle.  Sure hope everything goes  find and I'll be able to walk normal again.  Hubby bought a glass door for the front of our house and installed it today.  We decided not to use a screen door.  I really like it.  I'll close for not since it's late.  I'll talk to ya soon.   Jeanne

Update on MRI

Hi all.  My MRI was completed and saw the Dr. today.  Everything looks fine and I will be able to have outpatient surgery on my ankle July 2nd.  I talked to my brother and he has the same as me.  We have cavernous hemangioma.  I found out today that I have 10 of them.  He saw his doctor because he doesnt have feeling in his feet and Dr. ordered him to have an MRI also.  He will find out his result in appx. 1 1/2 weeks.  Right now he's in New Mexico. 

I've been working on my quilt.  Hopefully I'll have 13 rows finished tomorrow.  I'll have  56 eight inch stars.  I need to visit our quilt shop tomorrow and buy more fabric.  Agnes and I visited Joann's today.  Their having a big sale the first weekend of July but I won't be able to go cause of surgery.  They'll have 50% off and also a 10% coupon.  Talk to ya all soon.  Jeanne

Another Hot Day

Hi everyone.  It's been so hot here in NW Florida and now I've been seeing a lot of mosquitoes, especially in the evening.  It seems like the rain is staying east or west of us.  We really need it.    Some places the grass is turning brown.  I have some veggies growing out back and their not looking good either. 

Dh's daughter never called him from Virginia on Father's Day.  He called her home today because her son's birthday.  He's now 10 years old. She only has a cell phone and he always leaves a message but never receives a call from her.  It would be nice if she would think more of him being her father.  Her husband is a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and I'm pretty sure she can afford to call him.  Sorry if I feel upset.  When you loose one daughter in an accident and the other one doesnt communicate with her father.  Just wish we knew what's happening up there. 

I havent been feeling very good today since my tummy is upset.  I know I have surgery next week and I always worry before I have one.  I'll talk to ya all soon.  Jeanne

Sweeter But Not Healthier

Frutrose, which is used primarily in beverages and baked goods seems to reduce hunger.  But it adds significant calories to your diet.  Of all the naturally occuring sugars, fructose is the sweetest.  For many years it was hoped that replacing corn syrup (glucose) in the diet with fructose-rich sweeteners might be beneficial to those with type 2 diabetics.  Also because fructose is sweetener than other sugars, it was believed by some that increasing the amount of frutrose and increains other sugars might aid weight loss by reducing calorie intake. 

Research shows in large amounts (10-15 of calories or more) fructose promotes weight gain and increase in insulin resistance.  There are other reasons to suspect diets high in fructrose may be dangerous for people with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetics.  Diets higher in frutrose adversely impact blood lipids and promote cardiovascular disease and can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetics in genetically prodisposed people.

Foods that often contrain high-frutrose corn syrupe are:  Breakfast cereals, canned soups, cheese spreads,  chocolate syrup, cookies, crackers, dessert toppings. fruit drinks and juices, granola bars, ice cream, sherberand sorbet, instant breakfast drinks, jams jellies and preserves, peanut butter, pickes and relishes, salad dressing and mayonnaise, sauces and condiments, soft drinks and sweetened beverages, tomato sauce, tomato paste, pasta sauce and yogurt.

June 19th

Surgery

Hi everyone,  On July 2nd I will have surgery on my left ankle.  I sure hope I'm doing the right thing.  I'm in a lot of pain as it is now and have to wait little over two weeks.  They made an appointment for my family doctor and neurologist before surgery.  Now they have to have an approval by your other doctors. 

I see the neurologist twice a year because of the two brain surgery I had in 1967 and 1987.  I have Multiple Cerebral Cavernous Hemangioma and also my grandfather and mother had the same and passed away.  At one time this grew and caused me to have a stroke when I was young.  Now I have an MRI once a year to make sure northing grows.  I think I said something about this in the past.  My brother has them also and he's fine. 

We had a little rain yesterday which lasted maybe 10 minutes.  I know when I have surgery I won't be able to take care of my plants.  Dr. said I will be in a cast for 4 weeks because I have a pulled ligament.  I cant move my ankle at all.  Then I will be placed in a removable cast for 4 more weeks and I can start bearings some weight.  The last time I saw him was 2 months ago and I should have had it done then.  Just hope I will feel a lot better.  Talk to ya all soon...Have a good nite...Jeanne

No News is Good News

Hi everyone.  We havent heard anything about Dh's sister today.   At least we know she's not worse then last night.  :)  I called to see if I could see the Dr. tomorrow but he's booked solid.  I just can't wait till I see him Monday.  Dh's goes to work tomorrow.  Earlier today he wanted to know if I would be able to go and I had to turn him down.  As of tonight I can't walk on my ankle anymore.  I was thinking if I"m worse tomorrow I'll just go to ER.  I have been taking pain pills and applying ice but that doesn't seem to help either.  I'll leave for now.  Talk to ya'll soon.  Have a good nite.  Jeanne

Sister-in-Law update

Last night Betty had a major stroke.  Sheila called to let us know and they had to make a decision on giving her a shot to bring her back.  The doctor told her she will remain a vegetable if not and if Dr. does give it to her its possible she can make it at a slim chance or she could still pass away.  They decided to let him give it to her.  He gave it to her and Thank God she came back but her one side is paralized.    This morning she did know two people that were visiting her and her birthday which is this month.  I know when I had my stroke that after a week or so I improved a lot but mine was not as bad as hers.  Dh asked me to get the bags packed to leave for KY.  I told him that I hurt toooooo much to even try it with my ankle.  I asked him to fly but the price is 1,000.00.  Thats tooo much!!!  I have an appt with Doctor to schedule surgery on Monday.  I have a pulled ligament and he said it will not get any better, but Dh still wants me to go.  I told him i would only be able to stay at the house the whole time and I cant see doing that when he will be at the hospital most of the time and I would have to go up and down steps to enter his other sisters home.  These are NOT small steps either.  As of now he's not talking to me.  I just wish he could understand the pain i'm having right now.  I talked to my one neighbor and she will take me to the Dr. appointment Monday but please call her back to let her know what we decided. 

I know how my Dh is feeling right now.  Betty is his oldest sister and we have always felt like sister ourself.  We are really close.  Really I'm very close to all of his family.  I just pray that he will understand how i feel.  Just wanted to keep ya updated.  Talk to ya'll soon.  Jeanne

Sister-In-Law

Niece, Sheila just called us from Central Florida.  Her mom, Dh's sister is in a nursing home in Ky and asked them to call her any time her mother is ill.  Sadly they called and now she's on her way to the emergency hospital.  Her blood pressure is high and is not responding to anymore.  This happened to her appx. 5 years ago.  Dh and I think she had another stroke.  Sheila will call us later tonight if she's not any better.  Please pray for her and the family.  Thanks.  Jeanne

First Day of June

Hi Everyone,  I can't beleive June is already here and also today is the first day of hurricane season.  ughhhh  Just hope this isnt a bad year.  We have been lucky for the last 2 years. 

I had my first treatment today with the chiropractor.  I go back again tomorrow.  I'll let ya all know later if I see any improvement.  Hopefully!!!  I only had to pay $7.00 and I will be seeing him three times a week to start out.  Hopefully with in the first two weeks I may feel better but if not he will start another new procedure.  My one neighbor, Agnes only has to see him once a month now. 

We heard from Dh's sister in KY.  She's flying out to Dallas to see her daughter tomorrow for a few days.  She's having her pacemaker checked in her heart to make sure everything's fine there.  She been feeling a lot better since her hubby was admitted to a nursing home.  I'll talk to ya'll later.  Have a good nite.  Jeanne

May 18th

Hi Everyone.  We finally had some rain today here in nw Florida.  Usually its stays north of us.  With my ankle hurting a lot its hard for me to do any gardening.  I know I need surgery but wish I didnt have to go thru with this right now. 

I signed up for camp awhile back,  I'll be there all day Tuesday and spend the night and leave early Wednesday.  Its appx. 40 miles from our home and it feels so peaceful there.  Every third wednesday of the month a bunch of us get together and quilt in the morning.   Hopefully I  can go to both of these.

The Mourning Doves outside our back door have been there for awhile.  The male and female share parental responsibilities, with the male sitting on the eggs for much of day and the female taking over in the late afternoon and remaining through the night and early morning. Eggs hatch in about two weeks and chicks fledge about two weeks after that.   We checked the nest before we left and thought they would still be there when we came home.  So far hubby has the nest up for rent again.  LOL

Updates

Hi Everyone,  I've been working outside a lot lately.  Love the temperature, just wish it would stay like this, but not here in Florida.  Soon it will be a lot hotter and humid.  :(  Right now its 80 degrees here at 12:20 am.  A lot of my flowers are blooming including my roses. 

While on vacation in KY I had my hair cut.  This is the shortest I've had it cut in years.  Sure miss Dh's sister, we really had a good time together.  Everynight we stayed up late and talked and shared information about quilting.  Right before we left to come home,  she gave me one of her books.  It has a lot of patterns and templets.  Everyone up there really like the star quilt i've been trying to finish.  I'll post more later.  Hope everyone has a blessed nite.  Jeanne

We're Home

Hi All,  Dh and I are finally home from Ky.  We did stay at his sister #3's farm and had a good time with her.  She had a honey do list for her brother.  He took down the old ceiling fan and installed a new one with lights this time since she didnt have any lights in that room.   He also installed a railing fence outside her back door so she could hold onto something while going up or down her stairs   He also hooked up her computer since her son didnt have any time and has been pretty busy with the upkeep of her farm.  I also taught her how to knit and she showed me all the quilts she had made.  They were really pretty.  She wants to make her one bedroom upstairs into a quilting room. 

We went to visit her hubby at the nursing home.  He remembered my name and not Dh's.    He has alzheimers and parkinson's disease.  With these two diseases, he has a problem of not wanting to sit or lie down.   He probably walks the hall at least 18 hours a day if not more.   He doesnt like anyone telling him what to do.  We did see his other sister number 2 that has alzheimer's also and she's really quiet.  We took his number 1 sister out to eat thats in a nursing home and this was her first time  outside for a few years but she still knows her way around town.   She is over weight a lot and can't walk by herself and told us she's too scared to try anymore.   Hopefully in June of 2010 we will have an 80th birthday party for her. 

There was so much rain there and a lot of fields streams and river's are flooded and not able to plant vegetables at all.  We were there for seven days and the last two days they finally didnt have any rain. 

I will go for now.  I'm awful tired and need to be at a meeting tomorrow and two Dr.s appointments.  I'll talk to ya all soon.  Jeanne

Crocheting

I went shopping last night with Agnes at AC Moore and decided to buy a crochet needle and a Leisure Arts booklet that shows everying in detail including the distructios in full color if anyone would like to buy it.  This was the only one that really went into detail and has 14 different projects.   I'm trying the single stich right now and using some yarn that is left over from knitting.  Thought I would make a small dishcloth.   Seems like crocheting is really slow compared to knitting.  I'll take a picture of it when I'm done.  Talk to ya all later.  Need to go to mall and buy a few things before we leave tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.  Jeanne

Friday

Hi all,  I vacuumed today and also swept our garage and our big patio outside.  I vacuumed all the rooms inside too.  Trying to get a few things done before we leave.  I asked my neighbor is she would feed our fish and water my plants while we're gone.  I think I will ask my other neighbor to take care of my orchid that Dh bought me for Easter. 

I can't wait till we're there and we can step out of that car after 10 hours depending on how bad the traffic, especially in Tennessee on Interstate 65.  Just hope we don't come across any accidents.  That makes the time go a little faster anyway.  I  did some packing today too.   It seems like I don's have enough clothes or they are getting worn out.  Maybe I will have to go shopping while we're up there.  :)  I'll talk to ya all later.  Going to read some blog.  Nite Nite all.  Jeanne
