Saturday, February 17, 2007 - Life Happening Now: *2 pregnant does, 1 who will be kidding any day.
Chloe will be kidding very soon, so we have been down to the barn quite a bit more than usual. -And, oh, what fun that’s been with the 3 feet of snow and all!! She had torn apart a bale of hay a couple of days ago and made herself a right-nice little bed, so she's probably pretty close. In addition to that, after Geoff Igarashi questioned me on what we feed we give the 2 does and then gave me two emails from the dairy goat webrings, I was determined to check that out. As I said in a recent post, I kinda' thought to myself, "WHY did I not question feeding the grain to the goats, since we want to eat grass-fed cows, not grain fed." Hmm... duh. So, since then, Jocelyn and I have spent the last few days researching online and on HSB2 ways to feed our goats without grain. Yesterday, Matt and I went to Tractor Supply Company and researched the goat feed that they carry a bit. I was happy to be able to buy some feed that will work well for now, especially with Chloe expecting kids any day and Heidi within the next month. So, we will gradually change them over. They were running out of corn, so we were taking them off of that, and they are eating alfalfa and hay, but this will give them the extra feed they need. We also bought a publication that is actually for meat goat-raising, but it has a long article that is a “refresher” for birthing goats. Yep! Just what we needed! We have signed up for the 2 webrings Geoff gave us and are already happy we did. Amanda, Jocelyn and I sit around the pc and read the daily digest, which always has something to do with does kidding or newborn goats. It has been interesting.
The webrings on Yahoo. com are: HDG911 and homedairygoats, in case you are interested.
