Today has been my errand day. You know, those running around days which are essential to life but which we really don't look forward to. You know, the days you stop at what seems to be a million different places. For me, the day began early. I left the house at 8:45...my car's air conditioner is broken, so I like to get out and hopefully be back home before 2:00. When I left the house, it was nice and cloudy, causing me to hope we might get some rain. Rain in my area is quite rare during the summer. As a matter of fact, we only average about 11 inches of precip. a year anyhow---and most of that is not in the summer. However, by about 11:00, the clouds were gone and the hope for rain was shattered. Anyway, I hit the library, the bank, the grocery store, the gas station (where I spent less than $4.00 a gallon ($3.87) for the first time in months), PetSmart, the meat store (where I buy organic, free-range beef), the farmer's market (where I buy local produce and local pasteurized, non-homogenized milk in glass bottles. I really would like to buy raw milk; sadly, though, raw milk is not legal to sell in my state, so I buy the hopefully next best thing). Then I hit the Christian book store, a couple other local shops, and finally the health food store. An awful lot of stops, that's for sure. But now they're done, and I can enjoy my home. Even though it makes for a very long day in the car, by consolidating my errands into one day, I now don't have to go out and battle traffic in my unairconditioned car until some day next week. And that is a wonderful feeling. |
