Since some have asked................
........here is the picture of the family table that my husband made me.
The table is wide enough for 2 people to sit comfortly at each end and 3 people down each side. There is still enough room for your serving dishes down the middle of the table when you have 10 people seated.
He made this out of old "drafting" tables the college was throwing away. He pieced enought together and went from there to make.

Your table is beautiful, he did a wonderful job. My dad made one some 30 years ago before he passed in an accident. He made it soooo big that it will not fit in my kitchen or the dinning room of my home. Pitty, cuz I would love to have it here with me. My mom still has it but it isn't being used anymore.

Our first long table made by Dh was about 6 ft (I thought that was HUGE back then!!!!) and we still have a portion of it -- I had him cut it down to an extra large bread board for me :o) It covers the end of my new table....a 3.5 ft wide 9 ft long beauty :o)
