Country Woman's Journal

About Me

Hello & welcome to my blog! My name is gloria. I live in an old farmhouse on a beautiful hill overlooking God's green earth... along with my husband of 17 yrs and our 10 children. I enjoy the simple pleasures of country living. I love the Lord and desire to live a life pleasing to Him. This blog is a "journal" of sorts where I will be sharing my thoughts and ramblings, and occasional mishaps too. :) I hope you enjoy reading. God bless!

A Lamp Unto My Feet - 12:38, Thursday, January 8, 2009

" Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. "

                          ~ Psalm 119:105 ~

I recently purchased this lovely Bible at a local Christian book store. Isn't it lovely? It looks old but it isn't.

God's word has become very near & dear to me. It has seen me thru many a storm and many a tearful moment. In it's pages are words of hope, words of comfort and beautiful promises from our Lord.  Truly the Word of God lights my path and is a lamp unto my feet. Like water to a parched soul, and bread to a hungry heart is God's word.

May we all treasure up the Word of God and hide it in our hearts,

~ gloria ~

So true Gloria....if only we all read our bible more. I was so touched by a Pastor who came to visit our church and told us of a church where he works in Zambia Africa...he said that people would rip out pages in the bibles he brought just so they could have the word of God in their homes. It blew me away because we have lots of bibles in our home and here are people who are willing to rip pages out just to have one singe page. How thankful I am for my bible! And great to know that if I shop at Bibles for Missions I am helping to send bibles to those countries who so desperately need them.

Beautiful post.

Gloria,
That is a beautiful bible--we are excited about our daughter's marriage--but most importantly in prayer so much prayer for them as they are young. Yes, we are hispanic--my husband is from Oaxaca, Mexico! We speak bilingually and all of our children speak spanish except the oldest--she was adopted at 16 and it was too hard for her to learn--though she "gets" a lot of it :) We eat pan dulce about 1x a week--we have a great bakery hear--of course, I can bake the conchas, but have a heard time finding recipes for ones with the fillings inside--so yummy! Do you do a lot of cuban cooking in your house? We used to have a fabulous cuban restaurant around here. Blessings to you Gloria!!! We have even more in common than I initially thought :) LOL

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. You comment also strikes a nerve. I do not agree with the idea of nursing homes. To get my CNA certification I had to work in one almost 3 months - so I can give you the "inside" story. :( The people that work in them are not evil, per se, only calused because these people become their "job".

Dh and I are so commited to keeping our parents outside of nursing homes - BUT we are the "crazy" ones. His parents think we are so foolish to be having our third and want more; so sometimes it's so hard for me to see them living with or near us. I can see my mom ending up with us, although she talking about a nursing home. I really pray it is all "talk".

It's society; nobody wants a burden of any kind and no one wants to *be* a burden of any kind, when yes there are sacrifices but perhaps there is so much to be found in that "burden".

I wish I could word it better, I'm hoping you understand. :)

A beautiful Bible; and we too find our thoughts frequently with Israel these days.

Blessings,
~Ashley~
