The Birth of a Dress - A Postpartum Glimpse!
My intentions, yesterday, were to put up a last post, today, showing Rebekah in the dress and matching hat and bloomers.

We have a "field" of flowers in our yard I knew she'd be pretty surrounded by.

Photobucket

However, the rainy weather outside, today, is preventing a decent "background" for picture-taking, and the children are rambunctious and won't sit still long enough for me to "click"!

Furthermore, Rebekah's sized small (the step up from newborn size!) was too large for her sweet little head.

It did, however fit her four-year-old sister!

And, while the dress fit Rebekah just fine, I found the bloomers to be an unnecessary addition, and decided not to sew them after all. The dress fit perfectly, and was nice and modest in length.

Here are a few pictures to close this topic.

I wish they would have turned out nicer, but they'll have to do!

Our completed dress

The matching hat...

Photobucket

Rebekah in her dress... And Nadia in her new hat!

Photobucket

This was my first attempt at getting Nadia to stay still long enough for a picture to be taken.

Photobucket

The back of the dress...

Photobucket

Funny little baby!

Photobucket

Runaway model...

Photobucket

Every time I went to click the picture, Rebekah would crawl away!

Photobucket

Her and that goofy open-mouth!

Have a terrific day! I hope you've enjoyed this little "glimpse" into the creation of a dress!

The dress looks so sweet on her! Do you mind me asking where you got the pattern? I would love to have it! I have so many nieces that this would be perfect. I've got a sunbonnet pattern I've been wanting to make for myself to wear when gardening...I'm going to have to get it made up soon.

From Carrie:
I bought the pattern from Gehman's (see my left sidebar under "links"). You might try finding patterns that are similar on ebay as well. I've often found some really wonderful ones for the children at low, low cost!

crawling?
I think the bloomers would be useful and helpful with a shorter dress- can a baby crawl in longer dresses?

From Carrie:
You'd think she'd have problems getting around, wouldn't you! But she doesn't!

And yes, I've actually done that on occasion when I didn't have a whole lot of fabric. The skirt gets trimmed in length and bloomers sewn up. Works terrific on a baby!

Adorable (dress and baby!)! Looks like Miss Nadia is pretty impressed with her new hat! It suits her and looks like it was meant to be. Too cute! You make sewing look effortless and enjoyable. I'm sure that you've inspired many. :-)
