The Birth of a Dress... Part 2

Mondays here at the house are busy days!

There is always a lot of "catch-up cleaning" to do after the weekend.

But, I wanted to at least do a little bit more work on Becka's dress.

I didn't accomplish a lot, but a couple steps completed are a couple steps completed!

The first thing I set to work doing, today, was stitching the yoke front to the yoke back of the baby dress.

Then it was time to work on the collar.

I put wrong sides together, sewed them...

... clipped the seams, turned the collars right side out...

... And finally, pressed them neatly.

Afterward, the collar was pinned onto the neck of the round bodice and tacked on with large stitches.

Then, it was time for me to create a bias to make the neckline nice and neat.

I folded this small strip of material in half, ironed it...

... Then pinned it against the right side of my collar so when I'd "turn it inward" and sew again, everything would look nice.

Then... my husband came downstairs and asked if I would go somewhere with him.

My project was quit for the afternoon.

But. I did get the collar out of the way!

Tonight, if I have time, I can do some more work on the dress. Otherwise, I'll pick up where I left off, tomorrow morning.

I must do up the sleeves, attach the skirt...

Should be fun!

Hi just found your site not too long ago. I haven't been through the whole thing but I am looking forward to that. I also make dresses for my girls. I use the same patterns! I assume you made your dress too? If so , what pattern did you use? Sewing for myself isn't something I do alot of. Well, I am glad to have found you. I look forward to visiting often! I don't like sewing for myself, either. But eventually I cannot neglect the need and do it, anyway!

My dress patterns come from ladies at church, as well as Gehman's Fabrics (see link at left).

That pattern looks adorable, then again I am partial to anything that has blue in it. Your head covering/veil is very nice looking, did you make that?

No! I got it from Garlands of Grace. See my left sidebar under "links". The covering from the day before was gotten from Devorah's (also on sidebar -- it's black lace netting with embroidered flowers).
