for a (publisher printed) book I'm working on. I will be happy to send you the outline if you're not sure your experience would be a "fit". Thank you in advance!
She's getting so long and tall, and has been outgrowing everything so quickly!
I thought I would "chronicle" the "birth" of one of her new dresses, just for fun.
Enjoy the ride! It's a rewarding, enjoyable process!
A fabric is chosen (a pretty, blue, floral tropical breeze), and sewing items gathered...
(Ah-hmm... apparently, my oldest daughter deleted the photos of the pinning process. So, we'll be bypassing that step...)
This is a multi-sized baby round-yoke dress pattern by The Kings Daughters that I purchased some time ago from Gehman's Country Fabrics and More.
Here I am tracing my daughter's size.
It is always tempting to simply cut out the pattern size I want at the time, in an attempt to save time.
But then, someday, I would regret not having the larger sizes!
And then, of course, it is time to cut it out.
It's always a "family process". The little ones like to watch which is nice. They are within view so I know that they're not getting into trouble...
Not that it helps much!
Here I am cleaning up salt that the two-year-old dumped from the salt shaker while my back was turned...
Once that was taken care of, I was able to begin cutting, again.
I had supper cooking in the oven, so was in a little bit of a rush to get this part of the job done. We would soon need the table for more than cutting fabric!
Whoops, the oven timer went off.
A last clip and trim and it was necessary to fold up my sewing items for the evening.
The olders helped me to set table and we enjoyed a yummy meal.
Our dress-making adventure will need to take a pause.
Thank you for sharing...I love the photos...and the step by step play list! I can't wait to see the finish product.
Please tell us how the easy/difficult level this dress is/was. I am a beginner at sewing...and really want to do a dress for my niece and granddaughter...I love the look of this pattern!

THANK YOU... I have a brand new, never been used before sewing machine that I got for the Christmas before last, and I still have no idea what to do with it. I have some patterns, and I have a new machine, so I've been looking at it, think "now what?"
Thanks for showing us that you do it on your kitchen table. I've been wondering where I could sew at, and the cabinets that I keep my sewing machine and such are next to table, so that is a great idea. :-)
I can't wait for the rest of the pictures. This has been quite helpful. I don't know anyone who sews, besides on the internet, so I need pictures. :-P
Have you thought of using some non-fusible interfacing to trace the patterns onto? That way you can pin/trace the patterns repeatedly without worries. There is also something called Swedish Tracing "paper" that comes in 10 yard rolls. It is more durable even than the non-fusible interfacing.
