I have often thought that the "living room" is called just that because it is the main seat of any house.
It's where most of your time is spent. One relaxes and enjoys their family there. And, if you're like me, it's also where many of your chores take place. I like to fold my laundry in the livingroom while my children surround me, for example.
Often, the main living area is the first room your company sees. You should never tremble at the thought of unexpected visitors! It should be a glowing possibility every day!
The first thing every day, give your livingroom a sweep of attention. You will feel better for having done this!
As you move through your day, spend a few minutes every hour or so to tidy it, again. In my house, toys played with tend to "spread" if I do not keep things in check. Even my own "clutter" wants to wander. Taking care of this periodically throughout your waking hours will be a huge benefit in the long run!
The room you spend the majority of your time in is the one most prone to disaster. Nip it in the bud before it overtakes your family! Like long hair, if you brush it daily rather than waiting until the tangles are severe... you will find it easy to manage!
Before going to bed at night, take a run-through of your home and tidy where necessary. Focus, especially, on the living area. Waking up to a neat home is such a blessing! It affects your mood as wellas your energy level.
You will be so thankful for the peace it brings you. There is less of a harried feeling when you can greet the day with less mess.
Truly, this is a simple little thing that makes a big difference in the homemaker's life.
wonderful advice...but for me, this includes the dining room, living room, kitchen and sewing room. We are an open floor plan here, a bit moreso than you are. I have had days where it looked as though a hurricane swept through, but we are getting much better at picking up as we go along during the day.
Thats good advice we pretty much have an open area of the whole house first room you walk into is the dinning area..Here in Maine most people company sit at the table.. and for the living room I don't let anything in there except when Ray is working on his postamarks then he kind of makes a mess.. Ray tell me the living room is what is says living room..You live in it? But I say no to that.. when he wants to lay on the couch I have a fit.. The couch is to sit on only..
Great advice when you have a house full, its only Ray and I and grandkids when they come..

Selling my house has made me a much better housekeeper.. you HAVE to keep the place tidy. Before I was pretty bad about it now.. lol and then you start getting used to it and before too long you fully appreciate it and can't stand it a mess. I do the night time sweep through as well. My 4 year old loves helping fold laundry, he does towels, washclothes and matches socks. He's also quite good at hanging things on hangers. The two of us just try to keep little brother (1) from pulling down our piles. Usually a washcloth or towel of his own keeps him quite busy. Vacuuming is a game for both of them. lol

and the simple act of tidying up the front room before I leave the house or go to bed at night is my 'gift' to me. It means I can navigate through my house in the dark without fear of stubbing my toes!
