I was sad to see that our photo journal page of Violet was no longer accessible. Perhaps on her birthday I will have my oldest help me upload some pictures to a post.
All of the "guests" that signed our "memory book" online was also somehow destroyed/lost. The last time I'd visited it, there were just under a thousand who'd signed. Those words from others were so special and meant so much...
But, nothing is permanent.
Nothing but the treasures we store up for ourselves in Glory.
Never forget that!
ps- As an aside, if you end up reading "Violet's Story", do keep in mind that my husband and I were at a very different "place" in our spiritual journey back then. We were not attending Mennonite, and were only new believers. There is much we do differently, today. Our priorities and understanding has changed a lot. I am closer, today, to the Lord. I love Him more than I ever have.
Thank you for sharing this story. I had no idea you had lost a child being a "newbie" to homestead just this year. My herart aches for you. I am so glad you wrote this and expressed your heartached and feelings for little Violet at that time, so glad God has helped you through it and has lead you to have other babies since then.
Carrie,
I had no idea you had suffered such a traumatic loss, and my heart hurts for you. Little Violet was as beautiful as her name. I do understand your pain, as we lost our only daughter in February of 1999. Coming up on the anniversaries always makes a mother wonder "what if." Thank you for sharing her story.
I should also mention that I created a memorial website for our baby as well. After not updating it, the host deleted it and I lost all of my guestbook entries. That was such a blow-- so I can understand how you felt when you realized that you lost yours. It's amazing how these little babes, who were only briefly touched by this earth have made such an impact in the lives of others. It was a great blessing to me to have others reach out to me--and to be able to reach out to them as well. It is a small consolation in midst of such grief.

I didn't realize you had lost a daughter.... that is such a difficult journey to walk...... thank you for sharing about violet and your poem to her was precious!
How sad and how painful it must be for you, to have lost Violet. The only way I would be able to deal with such a loss, is to know that Violet is now with God. To know that we may be together again. To know that Violet was so special that He needed her with Him now.
We lost a child in our family recently, it was very tragic. I know that the child has gone away from us and we will be with him again some day, If we live as God tells us to.
The loss of a child is much pain for one to endure. We must pray that our losses and our difficulties will some how glorify God. We must pray and know that some good will come from our sufferings. We must be content, even though it is hard.We must know that everything we endure is the works of God.
You are such a dear, sweet woman, who is an inspiration to many, especially to me.

Reading your story really touched me. We lost our first daughter, Rebecca the same year, she also lived only two days. It's heartbreaking to read about how badly you were treated at the hospital. Our loss was difficult for us, but we were supported at every step by everyone we encountered, and it was such a blessing to us. Rather than keep my baby from me, staff at our hospital insisted that I see her before she was transferred, and I changed hospitals, too. We were encouraged to hold her, and my husband even got to give her a "bath". Everywhere we turned, someone was helping us as much as they could. I credit this event in my life as the turning point that made me realize how badly I needed to draw near to my creator. Thanks for sharing your story. God bless you, and Violet, too.
