I am not a huge fan of meat. I'll eat it, and I do serve it throughout the week. I just don't care for the taste all that much, packaging is usually full of gristle and bone, and it's expensive. I enjoy finding meatless recipes and a few years back was amazed at one in particular that was a burger... made meatless! You won't believe how much like meat these taste... even the texture is identical to a hamburger. It is very odd! Normally we double this recipe. Made as shown below, you'll yield about four burgers. Try the recipe and let me know your own opinion. OATMEAL BURGERS (Yes, you read that correctly! Give it a try! Honestly!) Ingredients: 1 Cup rolled oats 1/2 tsp sage 2 eggs, beaten 2 TBLSP butter/margarine 1 beef boullion cube Instructions: Mix oats, sage, and eggs. Form into four (or five) flat patties. Fry in butter until browned on both sides. In a saucepan, boil 1 quart water, and add boullion cube. Pour mixture over patties in fry pan, and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes on low (or until liquid is absorbed). |
