Tired of feeling stressed and overwhelmed by your children's naughty behavior?
There is no getting around the fact. You HAVE to keep them WITH YOU all day long. Treat them like American Express cards. Don't leave ANYWHERE without them!
Think of those moments that your children are the naughtiest. When you're on the phone, for example. Or, when you need the restroom.
Now, plan an attack. You are not a victim. You can solve this problem!
Take the worst offenders with you and either put them next to the door or within the room you're in with a set activity. Do not let them get up or leave, and discipline as necessary if they try.
They will get used to the new routine, and so will you. And best yet, your home will be happily void of Mom's yelling and children's bad behavior.
You might like to read about "Tomato Staking" in the links at the left.
It's honestly a method that works and relieves a great deal of burden from Mothers shoulders! A child left to himself truly does bring shame. (Proverbs 29:15)
Thanks for the tomato staking link. I've never heard of that before, but I have practiced it. With my now 2yo, I have begun staking her much more closely as she has gotten used to the round robins of many bigger arms in the house. More and more I have had to remove her from the older girls and keep her with me. I even was talking with my mil about her as in church today, she was trying to make her rounds, but ended up between mom and Dad. My one daughter kept trying to take her and I finally had to say... NO, she needs to be with us. She, my 15yo, was a bit upset that I didn't feel she was caring well enough for her, but that wasn't the point... She, little one, wasn't listening to mom and Dad and needed discipline.
I've always found that God will move me by bringing thoughts into His will over and over and over. And you just were used to move me once again. Not that I hadn't agreed mind you... I just know that this little one needs more staking than all my previous children put together. She is a mover, a thinker, a pusher of all the limits. And I've seen that nothing so far has worked. I used to do this in daycare and I had wonderful results. Why was I not using it here with this one?
I know why, I was distracted by all my other responsibilities. But no excuses for mom... I can get them done with her. I can cook with her... I used to with the others when they were little, but it was so nice not to have to stop to let the little one stir the juice or whatever... and yet, it isn't . I was missing out on some of my best memories with my other three and letting my kids enjoy those fun moments with the little one.
Ok, you slapped me back into line. Thanks for allowing God to use you to help me!
Carrie,
Great post....... I agree..... I also belive children can be trained to be quiet and not get into trouble when mom needs to step out the door or go potty, etc.
I do keep my kids with me all day - but I also am training them to be able to be quiet and good when I need to go outside or to run an errand etc....... the children , if given enough attention at the proper times, given lots of love and a firm hand will also be able to behave for mother when she is on the phone, etc.
I do occasionaly speak on the phone -- and the kids know what is expected of them. Mother's should be able to take a call, or greet company etc without the children going nuts....
I think it's a matter of training....... we need to train our children that there are times that they can and should be still and quiet.......... Quiet times help a lot with this.........
But you are right - mother's need to keep kids close by and teach them durring those early years especially.
Bless you,
gloria
~ From Carrie:
I am not implying that this is to take the place of training children to control themselves. But, when children are unable to control themselves, often this is all that is needed to teach them what is expected and calm things down. Chaos only ensues when children are left to themselves.
