Email is wonderful, isn't it!?

We can type out a message, hit "send" with our mouse... and there's no need to do more! It's almost instant! 

But there's still something utterly special about receiving a hand-written letter in the post box! 

There amidst all of the "junk mail" advertising why we should buy this or that product... and hidden between what seems to be countless bills... shines something beautiful! Our eyes light upon it almost immediately! The familiar handwriting, the pretty envelope...

Yes, it takes a little more time to write by hand. It costs a stamp, and a little bit of paper and ink. But it somehow speaks louder than any email, and it touches the heart in a unique way!

Surprise someone, today! Write them a letter!

(Okay, I am leaving now... My children just brought in the mail and it appears I've got one of my own treasures to read!)

I just love getting the mail and finding a handwritten note or card! Emails and e-cards are nice and I have been very blessed by them as well, but there IS something about seeing a person's writing.

I have boxes full of letters that my great (some from great- great) grandparents, as well as my grandma and grandpa and parents. They tell of their courtship, and the events that were happening. (Historic value to be sure.) They are the sweetest things and are so dear to me!

I wish my children could have something like that to show their children. I used to write all the time. Now that I type so much, my handwriting has begun to suffer, unfortunately. I am reviewing a book for The Old Schoolhouse that is about penwork from 1881. I am LOVING it and getting back into this lost art form.
