There is just something so special about a gift that someone has made us. My husband has sometimes said, "I could have bought that for less!" or "Why go through all that bother when you could get the same thing off a store shelf?" Yes, there is a cost to yarn. But what nicer way to welcome a baby than a layette set or booties? Or even an afghan or baby hat? And, yes, it takes time to thread a needle and to make those tiny stitches that create a beautiful picture in the end. I like to cross stitch small Scripture verses or meaningful sayings, embellishing them with something the individual that it's for enjoys or collects. Projects such as these do not take much time, and by purchasing an inexpensive frame, it makes a lovely gift for any occasion! Homemade cards are both fun and special. So are scrap books created specifically for a particular situation or personality. Do you sew? Something simple such as a set of pretty napkins, or a tablecloth are appreciated! Embroider a handkerchief! There are countless ways to remember those in your life. They notice and appreciate the obvious fact you've spent your "free time" focusing on them. I, personally, am touched when I receive a gift that was made by hand. My aunt, recently sent me a quilt for our expected blessing. I didn't even know she knew how to do handwork... and here it was entirely cross-stitched. What a simple way to say, "I love you" to someone! For those of you who always mean to (or have wanted to) make more gifts from scratch, remember to include it in your weekly routine! It makes the wish become reality! And as for expense... keeping costs down is easy if you're careful and creative! Surprise someone, and let them know how special they are!
