Tonight, while I was tucking Stephen (nearly two) and Oliver (almost five), I felt especially exhausted. Getting off the floor, after dressing the younger of the two, was like hoisting up an elephant. Almost impossible! I picked up Stephen and let out a huge sigh as I shut out the light and dropped into the rocker with him. Oliver, already tucked snugly underneath the covers, seemed concerned. "What's the matter, mom?" he asked. "Are you alright?" "I just feel very huge," I replied. "Hoooge?" "Yes, huge." "Ohhh, hoooge like a giant or something. You're not that big, mom!"
~*~*~*~*~*~* Scarlet (six), and Oliver were discussing the expected blessing one recent morning. "She's naughty, already!" Scarlet wisely told her brother. "Naughty? Why?" "Well, she's not in there like she should be." (Scarlet must have overheard me talking about the baby's lie. She has been stubbornly breech - or on a good day, transverse.) Oliver contemplates this for just a moment before asking her, "Where is she, then!?"
