Shared in Our Walk as Women
|
Mothering children is exhausting work. Finding time for everything that needs attention can be a challenge. Yet we especially need God during this time of our lives. We need His wisdom, guidance and His peace. If you've ever felt like your housework is never done, have desired more quality time with God, or have felt as though you cannot "stretch" enough to fit everyone's needs, you're not alone! Cheryl Carter, in "Chasing God and the Kids Too" has many ideas for mothers who are trying to balance being a godly wife, loving mother and organized homemaker... with finding ample time to serve God and enjoy basking in His presence. I have really enjoyed and appreciated many of her comments, tips and advice. And I think her words have the potential to also encourage and edify many others. She makes finding time for everything seem very possible, even easy! Chapters that might interest you focus on organizing your home; implementing a realistic schedule; controlling your thought life; cultivating your marriage; your authority as a mother; encouraging children to develop their own relationship with God; contentment and joy; hearing God's still, small voice; and making your time with the Lord count. Another book that I've found to be helpful to me is, "God's Whisper in a Mother's Chaos" by Keri Wyatt Kent. Chapters focus on accepting our circumstances and limitations; knowing God; learning to fully trust the Lord; developing a listening heart; experiencing God's presence in mothering; guilt; and keeping things simple. If the Bible is your main focus, books such as these can truly enhance your walk as a woman. For those who have few "Titus 2" type mentors encouraging them in their walk with God, such writers serve to encourage and edify, train and rebuke us as Christian wives, mothers and homemakers. I'd love to hear your own experiences with such books. Are there any you would recommend to others that could be of any support or help? Which books have especially blessed you this past month or two? God bless us in our God-given roles and responsibilities! May He give us grace and wisdom!
