Good morning everyone, I am slowly recovering. I am still not sure what I have. I am using coloidal Silver now and it seems to be helping. I am up and around but on "limited duty" so to speak. I went to two sewing classes this week. I have learned so much! So what if I had to rip out my side seams several times. I had to get the tension set on my new machine and I had to sew straight!! I have never had a problem sewing straight lines before..........hmmmmmm. I learned plenty of things. I am sure the things I learned are so easy for people who already sew. However, they are very exciting to me. I am learning to cut out a pattern, read a pattern and cut out a garment, I am learning how to make a skirt! This one is an A line skirt that includes a waist band, zipper and interfacing. I bought enough material to make a matching shirt. Yesterday, I even learned how to change the foot on my new machine. Today, I must do housework, laundry and make bread. After two days if sewing classes and looking for a new washing machine...........I have things to do. Hubby is off work tomorrow for the holiday . Our family plans to spend the 4th at the lake watching the fireworks display as we always do. Here are the promised pictures of the ground cherries. They are quite tasty! They have a mild tropical flavor. May the Lord bless and keep you each and every one! As you can see they come in husks much like tomatillos. Even though the picture is blurry, you can still get an idea of the size. These were gathered wild and used by the pilgrims to make pies and jams and for fresh eating.

Good morning everyonem I am better. I am still struggling but I am better. Our garden is still struggling too. We received 1/4 inch of rain. We need much more. Please Lord! We picked 1/2 bushel of green beans, a bag full of cucumbers and some squash. We are getting few huckleberies, ground cherries and the first of our red currant and Mattls Willd Cherry Tomatos! We are picking a few banana peppers and cayenne peppers.. I do not believe we will get any sweet corn. The wind broke alot of the field corn so if we get any it will be very little. We are picking lots of purple hull peas. The okra has bloomed. The Jalopeno and bell peppers should begin coming in today or tomorrow. Everything is really slow because of the heat and lack of rain. I am very thankful and downright grateful for the produce God is giving us. He has answered so many of our prayers. A) I havelearned an awful lot so far B) He has sent rain C)We are getting some produce D) God sent the bees to pollinate E)He gave us the strength and motivation to dig up the yard and start raising food! There are many more prayers He has answered! God is so good! I went to my first sewing class yesterday. It was a makeup class. I was too sick to care last week. I got my skirt cut out and the side seams sewn. Today I have another class. I am so blessed to be able to take these classes. Well, thats all I have time for this morning. I am off to my sewing class in a few minutes. I will post a picture of the ground cherries later this afternnon, God willing! They taste good and are so unusual! May the Lord of all creation bless you today as you seek His precious face! Sewing Class

I am still sick in bed. I did not cough as much last night though and I slept lying down. i have decided to take a sewing class. Some folks I know, are sponsoring it. They started last week. I will go on Tuesday for a makeup class and start the actual class on Wednesday. I received a new sewing machine from my dh for my birthday in October. It has been used very little. I think we are making a skirt first. I am very excited about this. The teacher is a young woman who just graduated from Pensacola Christian College(ABeka) with a degree in Home Ec. She has been married for "One Year and two weeks". Speaking of the garage, a sweet little bird has made her nest on my husbands Table Rowder. Now, mind you this is a finished garage. We use it like another room in our house to store things etc. workshop, plant nursery well you know..........We have been keeping the door open all day until we go to bed at night ever since dd brought Jamie, the little Jack Russell home. The garage is her headquarters. right now as her bed is in there. She spends her time keeping the lizards run out of there.. So. prayerfully, we will be allowed to see the process of this bird raising her young "up close and personal". We are still praying for rain for our garden. It is holding its own. although it is no longer lush! So far, I have not lost plants thank God. They are just kinda sitting there trying to live. The corn, squash, strawberry spinach all have brown dried up leaves on the bottom and look pretty wilted. The cucumbers look wilted too. I am so grateful to God that it is still alive and not looking any worse than a few days ago. Please God! send rain Please! I pray the plants are putting down deep roots in search of water. The seeds I save from these plants should be more adapted to our yard and growing conditions next year. That is one reason I do not want to water. It is too big to deep water it.Anything I could do would just be on the surface and shallow. Then the plants will not send down deep roots and they will be wimpy and spoiled, expecting me to spoon water them. teeheehee. So, I am waiting on the Lord to water them. Maybe this illness is allowing me to put down "deeper roots" as I search for water. The Lord knows best. May the Grace and Peace of our Lord be with you all as you seek to do His perfect will! Crock Pot Granola

My daughter made a wonderful chicken and vegetable soup tonight with our largest crockpot. I made a couple of loaves of bread. I have not been able to do this for awhile due to my illness. I enlisted some help and it turned out well. I have been wanting to try making Granola in the crockpot ever since I heard of it. Here is what I did 5 cups oats 1/2 cup melted butter 1/2 cup honey a total of one cup nuts, sunflower seeds, almond slivers etc. For this one I used pecans because I had some in the freezer. 1 tablespoon of flax seed 1/4 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup of raisins Mix all dry ingredients well. Pour in honey and Butter. Coat the dry ingredients well with the honey and butter.Vent the crockpot lid with a chopstick or wooden spoon to keep from burning. You must stir this often to keep from burning. Cook 3 to 4 hours on high. It burns easily but not as easily as the oven. This will be cereal like and not trail mix like. You will need to add more butter and honey for it to clump like trail mix. I ate some with milk like cereal. It is good! Have a blessed evening! Chicken Instead Of Roast? Pot Chicken?

Good morning all! Thank you all for your prayers. I am still struggling with this illness. So, right now, I am sipping on Goldenseal tea. Yeah, I know it is really nasty. But I pluck my eyebrows right! I can do this! I sleep sitting up now because I can't stop coughing if I lie down. I went back to the Doctor yesterday. He said it will take one week before I start to feel better and 4 weeks before I am well. I , however, realize this is only his opinion and that God can overrule that at any moment. My regular Dr., the one I have been seeing since 1995, will not be back until July 15. The Doctor gave me cough medicine. I made the mistake ....or not.... of looking at the side effects before I took it. I just couldnt do it. One of the side effects was hallucinations! So I won't cough but I may go into a phychosis......I have seen folks do this. I want no part of it. So, I will keep trying the remedies my friend at Blackwater River Ranch is sharing with me. There is a 30 percent chance of rain today and tonight. This is a vast improvement as Sunday on the seven day forecast there was no rain in sight. Bless the Lord! Please send us rain! Please pray for my friend over at Way Down In Dixie.....they have had no rain for 6 weeks and she is losing her Garden. Lord please send rain! Many times since chicken is so much cheaper than roast, I will replace the beef with chicken. Here is a crockpot recipe that I have used. I guess you could call it Pot Chicken! Chicken (usually just a whole chicken but I have used leg quarters, thights, breast strips etc.) 2 large onions Lots of carrots As many potatos as will fit in the Crock(We love potatos) Salt Pepper(lots) olive oil Just mix everything well and make sure the meat and veggies are coated in the oil and spices. Put about 1/16 of a cup of water in the bottom Cook on high for 5 or 6 hours or low for 8 or 9 hours There you have everything you need for a meal. Add a salad and some bread and you have an even bigger meal! This works out really well when you will be gardening or canning all day and just want to eat and sit down when it is all over! It is a very frugal meal too. It doesnt take much energy to prepare, doesnt heat up the kitchin and the ingredients are super cheap! Things are peaceful with our Tribe today! May the Lord bless you and keep you!

I love beans. There are many health advantages to eating beans such as high protein and fiber. However, I am a southern , country girl. I just plain love Beans and cornbread. In the summer here the temps can stay around the 99 to 100 mark for days in a row. It gets plenty higher than than too. While I love the hot weather and cannot tolerate cold, I do not like to heat up the house and make the AC work harder. So, I sometimes cook beans in the crockpot. Heres how I do it. 2 quarts of water 1 lb beans salt to taste pepper to taste 1/8 cup olive oil stir together. Cook in crockpot 4 to 5 hours on high or 8 to 9 hours on low. I like mine done and almost mushy so you may have to adjust the times to suit your family's preferences.
I am very sick and have a doctor appointment at 10.45 today. I am in hopes that we can get me on the right track to health. I believe I suffered a relapse due to cutting grass for several hours in extreme heat indexes. Note to self..........take time to recover, the grass will wait. I have a really difficult time with that concept. I would be much obliged for any prayers on my behalf. We do what we know to do but God is the only Great Healer. May the Lord bless you in all that you do for His glory! The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Herbal Tea Research

Today I decided to do some research on the herbs contained in the Calming Spirits tea. This was decided by me because of some beneficial things that happened to my lungs and health after drinking several cups of this tea. I slept so well!!! I did not wake up coughing even once. I will not say that I did not cough. I do not know that. I only know that if I did, It did not wake up my husband or me. I am better today. Praise the Lord! Heres what I found. Rosemary has been used as an expectorant and to treat lungs. It has also been used to treat headache which I had. Lavender has been used to treat lung infections. My daughter is very allergic to Lavender so of course we do not use it with her. Cloves, another ingredient in the tea, has been used to treat coughs and headache. It also has been used to treat nausea and it works to numb the pain of toothache. It had a numbing effect on my throat which was wonderful, considering how awfully painful it was. Cloves are also reported, among other things to be antimicrobial. I believe that helped kill the germs in my throat. Continuing on.....it seems that spearmint has been used to treat fevers and headache. Both of which, I was suffering. And to think, I was just drinking it to relax so I could sleep. I have used these herbs for other things not listed here. Chamomile has been used for fever and sore throat. It has also been used for aches and pains, colds and flu! Wow! No wonder using all these together helped me so much. I hope everyone is having a great day! I just wanted to share a bit of my research today with you ladies. disclaimer...This is solely a testimony. This is not to be construed as medical advice. A friend introduced me to this tasty tea in 2003. I was having difficulty sleeping. This works quite well as a sleep aid and also works for just calming the spirit. Enjoy! You can raise all but the cloves, quite easily in your herb garden or purchase at any health food store, inexpensively in the bulk section. I am going to post a repeat picture. I think you will understand the picture better this time around. 1 cup Lavender Flowers 1 cup Rosemary 1 cup Spearmint 1/2 cup Chamomile 1/4 cup cloves Mix well.
To make just one cup, use 1 teaspoon per cup To make a whole gallon use 2/3 cup This is tasty and works quite well whether hot or cold. I prefer it hot.

This is part two of my post, which will actually show up first.........
Yesterday, I spent about 5 hours, in 98 degree heat, tying up tomatos that were blown down by the wind and trellising the green beans higher. I also weeded and fertilized most of the peppers, some of the tomatos and ground cherrys. I also worked on the cucumbers. I had to pull ragweed, which I am allergic to, and I am pretty sick this morning. I am in hopes this is the ragweed and not a relapse. I worked on the garage. It will require several more hours. Considering how many different people have moved in and around........well you get the picture. My oldest dd and my sister have a two week break from college. YAY! I may actually post something next that is not about the garden...........nah! Have a blessed day! Canning Potatos and Garden Pics Part 1

It seems I have made a mistake. Penny Sue asked me what type of plant was in the picture. I have been thinking all along it is a ground cherry plant. I posted this answer , even giving the catalog description and order number. THEN..........I looked in my garden journal and diagrams. I found ground cherrys in two other places already producing. I know this is correct because I recorded it in both places and the plants are exactly alike. I am so very sorry for the mistake. I do not have a clue what the plants are that are in the other post. I am going to read every page of my garden journal. They may be weeds. They sort of remind me of polk weed. It is edible but I have never eaten it. If I cannot find out the identity of the plants soon, i will pull them up and throw them away. This is very embarrassing. I am raising several things this year that I have never attempted or even heard of before. Even my old standbys, in many cases are new varieties because everything is heirloom started from seed in my kitchin. I am posting pics of "the real ground cherry plants and fruits in my garden" I would be beholding to anyone who could identify the plant. It is in my post entitled Garden challenge, about three back. Thanks for your patience! Many blessings! Above is a picture of the fruits! I Have Little Huckleberries

Yesterday, I cut grass for hours and hours. It was 96 degrees with a heat index of 106 degrees. I guess since I do not watch the news or listen to the radio.............not a religious thing just a personal preference.............I did not realize it was to be that hot. It is supposed to be 99 today. Yesterday I got so hot I got chills! Now I know why. Oh well, it is done and I am happy to have it checked off the list. It is a good thing I had some help! I did get in trouble with Granny though. Her son, my uncle, died of heat exhaustion at age 43. So, she is really aware of what can happen. I promised her to be more responsible. I know I am obsessed with the garden.........more like enraptured. I am enjoying it so much. I love to see everything growing and producing. I have more pictures of the peppers and stuff but I will save them for next post. My purple hull peas are blooming too! I have been cleaning the garage today! Yeah.....I know.....another hot job. I was so happy to hear from a friend today. Her name is Becky! May the Lord bless you all as you do all the things HE wants you to do!

Good Morning all! The Lord has blessed us with rain and we are grateful with all our hearts. I am gardening a new/old way that is supposed to avoid watering the garden in all but the most extreme drougts. My granny always said not to water it. Of course, they had HUGE fields of corn and peas etc. We used to play war in the cornfields. We could stay out there for hours and not be seen.(or so we thought) Both my Grandaddys had mules. One of the Mules you could ride. Her name was Emma. You have not lived until you ride a mule bareback................ Back to the present........I am using (for the most part) a book bySteve Solomon called "Gardening when it counts". Growing Food in hard times. I have to adapt it somewhat because he lives in a different environment than me. However, I have found plenty of useful information in his book. I also planted by the signs this year. T.E. Black's book "God's way" outlines this method. There is a planting guide every year. I will supply information for anyone interested. My Granny is teaching me all about this and so far....so wonderful. I should have asked Granny a long time ago. Friday evening, a storm blew up. I watched it lay my corn down flat. It also laid out my tomatos and squash. I was very grateful that it does not seem to have killed anything. My daddy came over Sunday afternoon and showed me how to stand the corn back up, which I have done. I am headed out when I finish this post to work on the tomatos.I have little green tomatos everywhere. I have been harvesting yellow straight neck squash, yellow crooked neck squash, zuchinni and cucumbers from the Big Victory Garden. My potatos are ready in the potato bed and I am harvesting the rest of my garlic today. The green pole beans have blooms all over them. I do not recall ever seeing so many blooms in the garden. The cucumbers are just full. God has sent the bees!!!!!Praise the Lord! We prayed and asked Him and He sent them! I feel humbled by this generous outpouring of His blessing! Yesterday I did all the laundry.........yep more people(including a baby) means more laundry. I started at 6:00 am and worked on it until I went to bed. I have about 1/2 load of whites left! I was able to make bread yesterday for the first time in couple of weeks due to my illness. It felt so good! And it smelled and tasted great with the wholewheat spaghetti and green beans I made for dinner. I also made laundry detergent and paid bills. I went to the country and also ran some errands. I sort of fell into the bed last night. My daughter spent hours and hours cleaning and reorganizing their bathroom to accomodate 5 ladies/girl/girlbaby 's on Sunday. We bought little baskets and different organizers for the drawers, closet and under the sink cabinets. There are two sinks and vanities so she divided everything up nicely. It looks so much better and is so organized. That was a major check off our list. I still have one closet to clean out for my neice to store her things. We are still waiting for the mattresses we ordered weeks ago for youngest daughters new bed. She has sleeping bags on the floor inside the bedframe right now. We have narrowed the furniture for the other bedrooms down. So we are getting there. My neice and I are about to go out and cut the grass. It has only been two weeks but it looks like a jungle out there! May you all have a blessed day as you seek the face of our precious Lord! For PennySue

Something got into my squash and knocked some plants down. I am in hopes they recover. However, in light of Gods blessing today.........well one must keep things in perspective.....right. I am harvesting squash and zuchinni everyday. I have managed to not post pictures of it for you. Bless the Lord! I am beginning to feel a little better and even scattered some fertilizer today and dug it in. I pulled a few weeds and hilled a little corn. I put down some weedblock where my wild tomatos are coming out of the garden and traveling on the grass. Now they have the block to lay on. I harvested some lettuce too. It was good for supper with the beans I canned last year. A friend took me to the feed store for more poles and cottonseed meal for my garden. I did a little laundry and puttered around straightening the house. Compared to lying in bed all day to weak to move, that was alot. Compared to what I normally do in a day, I did nothing as I am still feeling quite nauseas and weak. Like I said, it is all about perspective. I am finished with Day four of the 90 day Bible challenge. I have read 55 chapters in four days. I had already read 5 chapters in 2 chronicles when I found this Bible challenge. I also found a place online that is just the text of the version I like to read (NKJ) It makes it easy as I have a choice between reading my Bible or reading the same text of my Bible online. I start on the book of Exodus tomorrow. I am sorry the pictures are so close together. It was not exactly the way I planned it. For some reason the New Entry page will not cooperate so this is the best I can do. Below you will find tiny green tomatos, huckleberry blooms, and even pepper and tomatillo blooms. Every day in the garden is exciting. It is about 95 degrees here and dry......so..........things are tending to wilt in the afternoons(people too, especially visitors). We always have very hot summers in the deep south. It is one of the things I love so much about home. Some people even make tents for their squash. I have a ton of blooms on the cucumbers. If half of those blooms materialise into cucumbers we will all have puckered lips from the pickles! May the Lord bless you each and every one as you seek His precious face! ![]()

This is much cheaper than the store stuff and better for you and the environment. I usually just use plain vinegar but this works well too. Have a blessed day! First Potato

My Granny told me yesterday to go start digging potatos. This was after I had described to her how the vines looked. I am so weak and puny feeling. I went out there anyway, and dug this potato. I am so excited! I remind myself of when I was a little girl and found a penny on the ground! Thank you God. He did this, not me. I planted them the wrong way and He blessed the work of my hands anyway. I do not know if there are anymore. I am satisfied if I just get this one. I am so thankful to God! My garden is looking peaked today. It looks wilted and some of the things are turning yellow. My granny said I need to go add a little fertilizer. I am in hopes that I can muster a little energy when it cools down this evening to accomplish this. Everyone has been sick or injured at my house and my darling Mr. Right is on a business trip. I am also afraid I may have squash vine borers. Those have been a severe problem around here for several years according to the Coop.I got another mess of squash today from the garden. I am learning alot and grateful for anything God sees fit to provide from my garden. I may get the lessons without much produce. Whatever God wants I know is best for me. I had some tests done yesterday and am waiting to hear. The Dr. scared me because he wanted to rule out an aortic anurysm in my abdomen. I promise not to show you every picture of every bit of produce in my garden. Thanks for bearing with my enthusiasm and gratefulness! Blessings to all! { Last Page } { Page 1 of 10 } { Next Page } |
