Tomatoes, tomatoes & more tomatoes!!
I cannot believe it is a full week into November and I just picked a walmart type sack full of red tomatoes and had a few more that wouldn't fit. I mean I live in Missouri for goodness sake, this is just not right but I am taking it as blessing and being thankful! Does anyone have any wonderful, tasty recipes that use green tomatoes? I still have tons of green ones. I know I can fry them but what else? We had a good frost this morning so they aren't going to last long at all. I picked all the ones that were even any shade of red or orange and will set them in the window if they aren't fully ripe.
Blessings,

picture of my sprouting seeds

Oh my goodness but my sprouts are going to town! I haven't started plants from seeds indoors before and I am not sure what they are supposed to do but they are growing. Some are alot taller than I thought they would be. The green beans are the tall ones in the back and the tallest one is 8 inches. I am hoping they transplant to the garden ok. I am going to thin and replant today into bigger containers because there is still danger of frost here so I can't plant outside yet. My plan is to plant these plants in the garden as well as seeds so that I can stagger my harvest and maybe get more produce. I still have a bunch of seeds so I guess even if these don't transplant well, all hope is not lost. If nothing else, we have all enjoyed watching them grow. This is what there is: back row, tallest are green beans, then to the left are beefsteak tomatoes and then spinach. Front row: tallest is squash, then to the left are roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and cabbage. I am going to try to till the garden again today because I can plant the broccoli, cabbage and spinach soon. Have a great day!

Planting seeds & Lonesome Dove
I forgot tell you all that I had to replant my seeds. The only thing that sprouted was cabbage, my least favorite So, my dh brought home some new seeds and the other day I planted squash, tomatoes (3 kinds), green beans, spinach and broccoli. I can't wait until they sprout and I know they are growing. The garden is way too wet to til right now but it does need it at least once more before planting, probably twice. I love spring and I know we need the rain but I am so tired of puddles and mud around here. Well, it is better than snow so I guess I will just and bear it. Ok, I have to go for now. Once again been catching up on my friends blogs and have to get on with my day.
Oh one more thing, I let the kids sleep in today. The first one got up about 9:15 and then the others gradually did from there - yes, that is very late for us. I let them though because we have been staying up late watching Lonesome Dove. I admit, I have never seen it. My family is totally into westerns and we are all enjoying it. Yes, there are parts that most wouldn't let kids see but we explain, discuss and go on. I am really enjoying the movie. We anxiously await Daddy getting home each night so we can watch another part. It has to go back to the library Friday so we have to get it finished. Speaking of westerns, my youngest son's hero is John Wayne. For awhile, that is what he wanted to be called. He even told someone that was his name one day when we were at a conservation department event. It was great! The agent was impressed that a 5yo knew who John Wayne was.
Gotta go, have a wonderful day!

Getting ready for the garden
I tilled the garden today. I was barefoot and the dirt was cool and moist to my skin. The kids loved running behind me and digging for treasures, also known as worms. They found several to put in a bucket with hopes of fishing later. I only made one trip through the garden as the tiller kept dying, I think due to the dirt being too moist and too many weeds on top. I will do it again when it dries out more. The kids also helped me plant some seeds in homemade pots. I used recycled two liter bottles and a milk jug. We planted cabbage, carrots, squash and cucumber for today. I want to plant some broccoli, spinach and lettuce too but don’t have seeds yet. I will try to get them this week sometime. The seeds we planted today are left from last year and maybe the year before. I labeled the pots with what we planted and how many so I could make sure which seeds were still good or not. I also want to plant tomatoes, green beans, watermelon, cantaloupe, onions and pumpkin. I can’t decide about potatoes, they are rather cheap to purchase at the store, so I can’t decide if it is worth the effort and space it would take. I may try to grow the tomatoes upside down in buckets this year. I have read others have had really good results doing this. I think I will also grow cherry tomatoes in hanging pots on the porch this year. I think they will look wonderful and be very handy to the kitchen.
I should stop for now. My husband will be home soon and I should do a quick house pickup before he arrives. I also still need to separate the laundry so the kids can put theirs away. My oldest is staying at a friend’s tonight, his will wait till tomorrow. Have a blessed evening.
