I just wanted to let you know........

Posted in Ramblings

I am going to be closing this blog.  It has nothing to do with anything that has happened here at HSB.  I haven't even been reading any of the blogs lately. It is only because I need to spend time doing other things instead of being online reading blogs or posting on my own.  I have truly enjoyed getting to know some of you and I will be reading here and there, just not all the time.  I have learned alot from many of you and I am thankful for that.  When I have a question about homesteading, this is where I will come for my answer.  This is a great community and I am glad to have been a part of it, but it is time for me to focus on other things.  It is way to easy to get caught up reading entries and following bunny trails and that wastes valuable time that I could be devoting to my family or to God.  I am going to keep my other blog open, A Woman's Walk With God.  I feel led to leave it open for awhile.  That blog has more of a purpose than this one.  That one is a place to share my walk with God and to encourage others, as well as be encouraged by them.  Feel free to visit me there anytime.  Thank you for all the wonderful blessings I have received from all of my friends here at HSB!

Blessings,

Rashel

Why I haven't posted in awhile

Posted in Ramblings

One of my dear friends left me a comment asking how I was and said she had been thinking about me.  So, I thought I would post and explain why I haven't posted in awhile.  I have actually been considering deleting this blog but I haven't decided that is what I want to do yet.  However, I have been taking a big break because I had been spending too much time on here.  It isn't just the time I take to post, but I get caught up in reading so many of the other wonderful blogs here and I lost track of time.  I just decided to stop it all for awhile and see what I wanted to do.  I do love posting and keeping up with my friends and learning new things, but I have to come to a balance between this and everything else that needs my attention.  This week we are taking a spring break and next week I hope to get us on a little stricter schedule than we had been on before.  If this happens, I will allow a certain amount of time for me to get on the computer and check in, then I will stick to that time limit.  That is where I have been, nothing exciting going on and nothing bad has happened, just a break and getting my priorities straight.

Blessings,

Rashel

Just catching up

Posted in Ramblings

Wow, things have been busy and I have been trying really hard not to spend too much time on the computer lately.  So, I was way behind in reading my friends blogs and after several pages, I decided I would just have to live without knowing what everybody posted for the last several days or so.  I just don't have the time to catch up with everybody, as much as I would like to.  I am not babysitting the baby anymore which is freeing up my day quite a bit, I am thankful for that but also thankful I could help out a friend when she needed it.  The boys have been doing great with keeping up with their basic school.  Today we went to town to get some fruit and things and I let the two littles take some of their birthday money to buy something.  They had gotten more money than gifts this time, so dh and I decided they could take some and go buy something.  Well they did each get something but also gave some money to their brothers so they could each get something  That makes a momma happy!  We have still been working on character training and using a chart and reward system, it seems to be helping.

I was thinking about this blog lately and how I don't feel as if I have been posting as much as I used to and when I do post, it seems to be just rambling.  Hmmm, I may have to make a more concentrated effort to actually post something worth reading .

I better get.  We are having chicken ranch salad for dinner tonight with a side of broccoli/cauliflower/tomato salad that is just to die for!  If my wonderful sweet friend that gave me this recipe gives me the okay, I will post the recipe for you sometime.  Even my ds10 loves it!  So, I gotta go get the chicken thawed and wash up the dishes I haven't gotten to yet.  I know flylady says to go to bed with a shiny sink but I would rather leave them in the sink after dinner and spend some time with my hubby and wash the dishes in the morning when he is at work.

Blessings,

Rashel

Little blessings

Posted in Ramblings

Praise the Lord, all my children are feeling much better this morning!   I am so thankful it wasn't any worse than it was and that it was over quickly.  Thank you for all the prayers and well wishings.

I also got another surprise blessing this morning!  Someone clicked on my link on my sidebar for paperbackswap.com and I got a credit for referring them!  If you aren't familiar with that, it is like giving me a free book, because that is what I can use the credit for - a free book!!  So THANK YOU to the lovely lady that completed her registration yesterday!!  If you like to read or are looking for books for your children or homeschool, I highly recommend paperbackswap.com.  It is a great way to get books at very little cost.  You can check out their website (see the link on my sidebar) for further details or just ask me.

We have some housework to catch up on today, schoolwork and a trip to the library if they are open.

Have a wonderful day,

Rashel

Today's plans, Daily schedules and things I don't understand

Posted in Ramblings

The kids stayed at a friend's last night and will be there most of the day today, so I am going to try to get alot accomplished today.  My plans for the day are errands: library, groceries, JoAnn's, health food store and post office; then home to make laundry soap so I can do some laundry, dishes need done and then work on my skirt.  I will post later and let you know how things are going, unless I am too involved in making the skirt, then it will be tomorrow.   Oh, speaking of tomorrow, my husband will be jumping out of a plane in the morning  !!!! He has wanted to for a long time and got a great deal, so tomorrow is the day unless weather cancels as it did last week.  It is a tandem jump which means a more experienced jumper will be jumping with him, that makes me feel better.  However, I will still be praying hard in the morning!!

Monday is when some of us have committed to starting schedules/routines and sticking to them and holding each other accountable.  Would you like to join us?  We will be posting our daily plans sometime before Monday and then helping each other stick to them best we can.  It doesn't have to be a detailed plan if you don't want it to be, just basics that need done everyday.  Let us know if you want to join us.

Okay, there are a few things I was talking to dh about last night that I just don't understand.  Now, I preface this with what I am about to say is not about anyone in particular I know.  They are just some things I have noticed for quite some time. However, if you think I am talking about you, maybe you are guilty of one of the following too.
First, I do not understand people with families (children at home) that just work, work and work.  I mean they have a regular job and then do extra jobs to make more money.  Why not just quit spending so much???  Isn't time with your kids more important than new cars or vacations or whatever you are spending money on?
Second, I do not understand women that say they want to stay home with their families and then don't do anything to try to make it happen.  If you want to work, at least admit it and be honest with yourself and everyone else.  Don't tell me you want to stay home but can't because you can't afford to and then go out blowin' money like there is no tomorrow! If you want to stay home, then pray about it and see what you can do to make it happen.  But don't feed me some line about "I wish I could stay home" and then not even try to do it.
Third, I also do not understand people who complain about not having money and then buy frivolous (sp?) things.  What is up with that?  I mean one week they have no money to buy gas or groceries, yet next week at payday they will go out to eat and a movie!  Hello!!!  Or they worry about bills but go out of town for the weekend because they need to have some fun and get away from all the stress! Okay, I understand wanting to have fun, that is important but doesn't spending more money just add to the problem?
Fourth, I just don't understand wearing socks with sandals! I mean doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of a sandal?  If you want your feet covered, wear shoes.

Want to share something you don't understand?

Blessings,

Rashel

Busy day!!

Posted in Ramblings

I just love reading all the comments and learning more about each of you.  We can learn so much from each other and build great friendship, even with those that share different opinions on certain things.  I think that is great and I am thankful for all the friends I have here on HSB!

Wow, today has been a busy day, as was yesterday afternoon.  I started working in the yard yesterday afternoon, cleaning up some places that needed much attention and then weedeating and mowing.  I ran out of time and had to finish it up today.  So, this morning I have been doing laundry, put ham n beans on to cook and finished the yard.  I also got the porch cleaned off.  Wow, the ol' homestead looks so much better.  Dh is off today also, which is another reason I haven't been on here yet.  I don't like to be on the computer much when he is home.  Well, I am done with my lunch break and going out to practice football with the boys.  The two oldest have friends coming over to stay the night tonight, they are really looking forward to it.  Better get off here and get some more done.  I need to do a quick house pick up after playing with the kids.

Have a blessed day,

Rashel

I have been blessed with two more awards!

Posted in Ramblings

My wonderful special sister has awarded me with two more blog awards .  Now, last time I got an award, I took the chicken's way out and didn't pick fellow bloggers, well I won't do that this time.  It really is hard to narrow down the choices though and I hope no one is offended if they aren't mentioned, I love reading all my friend's blogs.  Thank you Debbie and the rest of you can visit my sister at My Children and Me

The first one is the "You Make Me Smile" Award.

The award is to be passed on to 5 people that make you smile and lift you up. Here are 5 people that make me smile and lift me up:

Chas from My Cup Runneth Over

Rhen from Yes, They Are All Mine

Maa and the girls at Homestead Girls

Sara from Blessings From Home

Kitty over at Kitty's Korner

The second award is the "Blogging Star" Award

This award is for bloggers who shine their light throughout the Blogoshere. Some do it with humor, others with creativity, and others with their kind and thoughtful natures. We all know more than a few of them so why not give them some recognition?

Here's what to do if you receive this:

  • Proudly display it on your blog along with a link to who gave it to you.
  • Mention that it originated here at Skittles' Place  so I can follow it's journey.
  • Pass it on to any blogger(s) you think should have it.

Okay, here are my 5 for this.

Ali at Life's Sweetest Moments

Andrea at The Christian Homemaker

Charity at Heartbeat

Alie from In the 'Zarks

Ashley from Adventures of a Country Girl in the City

Wow, that was hard but I know I enjoy getting the awards, so I wanted to pass a few on this time.

Blessings to all of you!

Rashel
